[Review] Extreme Job

A couple of weeks ago I watched the 2019 Korean film ‘Extreme Job’ and I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder while watching a K-film so I simply had to write about it.

‘Extreme Job’ was written by Bae Se-young and directed by Lee Byeong-heon. The director was also responsible for the 2019 hit K-drama ‘Be Melodramatic’. The police comedy hit all the marks for me and was extremely enjoyable.

The plot

‘Extreme Job’ tells the story of a squad of cops that doesn’t really have any luck with their cases. They mean well, but they’re also not exactly the brightest of the bunch. For an undercover operation, they start a fried chicken restaurant to be able to surveil a criminal organization with ease.

However, the fried chicken restaurant starts to do a little too well and becomes a hit. The cops get into a whole bunch of trouble and every step is even more funny than the previous one.

The cast

There are a lot of big names in this film. We get Ryoo Seung-Ryong as the captain of the squad. His nickname is Zombie, because he’s been stabbed a bunch of times and managed to walk away from all of them alive. Ryoo has been in the industry since 2004. Most recently he played Jo Hak-Joo in the hit series ‘Kingdom’. He was also the lead in the beautiful film ‘Miracle in Cell no.7’ (which is an incredible film).

Lee Ha-Nee plays Detective Jang who’s tough as nails. You might know her from the K-dramas ‘Be Melodramatic’, ‘Fiery Priest’ and ‘Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People’.

Jin Seon-Kyu portrays the role of Detective Ma who is a brilliant chef due to his parents owning a BBQ restaurant. It’s his recipe that kicks the chicken restaurant into fame. He was in ‘Svaha: The Sixth Finger’ and ‘Money’.

Detective Young-Ho is played by Lee Dong-Hwi. He’s the most serious member of the squad and the only one focused on the investigation. He was previously in ‘The Handmaiden’

The last member of the team is Detective Jae-Hoon portrayed by Gong Myung. He was in ‘The Bride of Habaek’ and ‘Feel Good To Die’. His role is hilarious as he’s the maknae of the group. Honestly, he was really adorable. Also his acting in the last arc was so crazy funny, I’m pretty sure I almost died laughing.

There are other big names like Shin Ha-kyun who you might know from ‘The Villainess’ and Oh Jung-Se from ‘It’s okay to not be okay’ fame.

Verdict

Honestly, if you’ve had a hard day and you don’t know what to watch. Give ‘Extreme Job’ a try. It’s one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen and the acting was really well done.
