[Patreon Exclusive Review] WHY: What Happened to Your Relationship

In today’s review we are diving into a web-drama I found by chance, but it turned out to be light-hearted, super cute and an easy watch when you are going through the K-drama blues.

‘WHY: What Happened to Your Relationship (a.k.a. WHY: The Real Reason You Got Dumped)’ is a 2018 web-drama starring Jung Gun Joo as Cha Yeon Woo, Hwan In Yeob as Gi Jae Yeong and Yoo Dong Guk as Oh Seul Gi.

Friends, Holidays and a Broken Heart

This story starts off with Yeon Woo going through a rough patch after getting his heart broken by Yeo Joo Hyun (Lee So Hee). His friends In Yeong and Seul Gi, decide to plan a holiday to Jeju Island to try and cheer him up but things change when they get stuck waiting for a cab in the middle of a motorway and meet Da In (Oh Ah Yun) and Lee Han Na (Lee Ji Won).

Han Na is collecting her friend Da In who is staying in the Bed and Breakfast Stay where she works and offers a lift to these three friends, and they are forced to stay in for one night.

Things get interesting when the three guys go out for a walk in the village and they see a writer who is looking to listen to the saddest break-up story. Yeong and Seul Gi push Yeon Woo to share his story so he can win the prize, however, Da In who is also in the crowd also shares her story and they both end up getting first and second place.

Back in the inn, Da In trades her first place prize with Yeon Woo. The three friends are forced to stay at the inn for the rest of their holidays after their original B&B cancels their reservation.

The day after, the three friends go on an excursion and Da In joins them as Han Na asks the guys to hang out with her friend because she will be busy working. In the outing Yeon Woo and Jae Yeong have a fight and everything becomes awkward.

Jae Yeong is frustrated with Yeon Woo’s poor mood since he broke up three months ago and things get messy once he suggests that Yeon Woo’s ex is probably dating again.

Seul Gi steps in and confronts his two friends who at this stage have ruined their outing, but everything goes back to normal once both of them apologize for the harsh words thrown around.

The beginning of something new

The following day, the three friends, Da In and Han Na meet up by chance at a bar and decide to start drinking together.

The day after the five friends decide to go out to enjoy the beauty of the island where they are staying. They enjoy their day out and decide to have a few drinks in the evening and start playing the jenga version of truth or dare with very personal questions.

Romance starts to flourish once Han Na notices she feels attracted to Seul Gi and Da In feels the same way towards Yeon Woo.

The gang are planning a surprise birthday party for Seul Gi. Han Na takes him hiking to distract him and they grow closer.

However drama ensues when the ex, Joo Hyun arrives at the B&B for the birthday party. We discover that the three friends and her were close friends before she started dating Yeon Woo.

During her visit she tries to reconnect with three of them as a friend. But Jae Yeong gives her the cold shoulder and confronts her for her nonchalant attitude after breaking up with Yeon Woo.

The day after her visit comes to an end and she leaves early in the morning. Yeon Woo who really wants to know why she broke up with him finally talks to her to find out that the reason they broke up was because she had feelings for Jae Yeong.

Back in the inn, Seul Gi finds out he has feelings for the very adorable Han Na, and prepares the most adorable event to declare his love to her with the help of his friends and Da In.

We come to the end of this very short but wholesome web-drama with all the friends meeting again but this time in Seoul, to celebrate Han Na and Seul Gi’s 100th day. They all reconnect over drinks and the jenga questions game. We get one of the most adorables get-togethers where Yeon Woo finally shows his interest in Da In.

In the final scene of this drama we find out that Jae Yeong had feelings for Joo Hyun before Yeon Woo but he gave her up because he knew his friend also liked her.

Wholesome Friendships, Beautiful Scenery and Fantastic OST

Jeju Island is thoroughly shown in this drama and the setting is breathtaking and stunning. The cinematography of this web-drama was fantastic and seriously made me feel that this ten episode web-drama is a hidden gem that more people need to watch.

Another thing I loved is the loyalty and understanding all the friendships had in this web-drama. They had each other’s backs and weren’t afraid to say ‘sorry’ and have empathy and that made it super special and extra cute.

The OST for this drama was fantastic and it set the mood flawlessly, with BOL4 and Paul Kim in the line-up it is very hard not to be biased with this drama.

You can watch ‘WHY’ below and be ready to binge watch these very adorable and one hundred percent whole web-dramas.
