[Review] Lee Chaeyeon – HUSH HUSH

Former IZ*ONE member Lee Chaeyeon released her solo debut titled ‘HUSH HUSH‘, you may know Chaeyeon for the many variety TV gigs she has done and for her participation in the 2021 HIT show ‘Street Woman Fighter‘ as a dancer.

IZ*ONE fans around the world were waiting for this release. Let’s get right into the music. The only thing we noticed beforehand were the heavy halloween and angsty vibes.

HUSH HUSH

The title track ‘HUSH HUSH‘ starts off this release with trendy beats, retro vibes and a very catchy and easy to listen flow. The song plays flawlessly and I loved how her voice was relaxed and cool. This title song definitely leans towards the laidback side and it is definitely unexpected but cute.

For the music video Chaeyeon becomes a very adorable vampire with peak aesthetics and stunning visuals. The colours, styling and sets of this music video are BEAUTIFUL, and the little visual effects just perfection. Watch it below.

Dany‘ takes over next and for this single we go 80s retro with heavy synth pop influence. This song is a total bop! Its style, arrangement and vocals are *chef’s kiss! I loved the ad-libs and surprising element that this song adds in this mini-album.

The pop genre track ‘Aquamarine‘ follows up with sweet singing and a groovy bass. I loved Chaeyeon’s vocals in the bridge, and how wonderfully the beats incorporated after the beat drop. This single is a pretty listen, super charming and easy to listen.

Lastly on this mini-album is the single ‘Same But Different‘ with a disco style but on the softer side. The use of silences in this song are AMAZING and super satisfying to listen to, the tonalities in her voice absolutely mind-blowing, and definitely ended this debut EP on a very unexpected but high note.

Lee Chaeyeon went for nostalgic disco and synth vibes for ‘HUSH HUSH’, and she absolutely delivered an amazing and cohesive album to listen to. We cannot wait to listen to her next releases. In the meanwhile, listen to this EP here.
