[Review] Whee In – Redd

Our vocal queen Whee In from MAMAMOO is back with her first ever mini-album ‘Redd’. Whee In has quite a few writing and composing credits on the mini-album which we love to see. Let’s dive right in to see what gems we’re getting.

Redd

We start off with the track ‘water color’ which is also the title track. In the album description they wrote that they wanted to show all the different colors Whee In can have with her rich vocal tone and just WOW. This song is such a cool, cool track with the addicting riff and the funky swing beat. On the physical album you also have this track in an English version.

‘TRASH’ featuring pH-1 is next and immediately starts off with a really cool beat. This pop R&B track is lovely and I am obsessed with the addition of the acoustic guitar. pH-1’s feature is cute and feels well balanced.

We follow that up with ‘OHOO’. This is such a sweet, soft indie track. The track is from the perspective of Whee In’s cat Ggomo. ‘OHOO’ feels warm and talks about following butterflies and laying in the sunshine.

Next up is ‘Butterfly’ featuring G.Soul. If you are in desperate need of some utterly amazing R&B vocals, this is definitely a song for you. The combination of their voices is heaven and I can’t believe I can listen to this.

‘Springtime’ comes after and was produced by Fisherman who we featured in our Weekly K-Indie Report here. This single is a thank you for the fans and a promise that Whee In will be in full bloom every spring. I love the indie instrumentation on this one. It’s such an interesting listen.

The last track on the mini-album is ‘NO THANKS’ which Whee In sang during MAMAMOO’s ‘4 Seasons’ concert in 2018.

‘Redd’ is a very interesting first mini-album by Whee In. It shows a lot of her strengths and we are 100% here for it. You can find the mini-album on Spotify here.
