[Review] Love To Hate You

In this week’s K-Drama review we are talking about another new Netflix production, with a superb cast, a fun story, and plenty of girl power. Let’s talk about the rom-com ‘Love To Hate You’.

Written by Choi Soo-Young and directed by Kim Jeong-Kwon, ‘Love To Hate You’ is a 2023 Netflix drama centring around the life of Yeo Mi-Ran (Kim Ok-Vin). She’s a lawyer who gets recruited in a very famous law firm known for representing big stars in the entertainment industry.

Mi-Ran is well-known for her personality, great skill with martial arts and determination of never losing to men. She grew-up in a very patriarchal household and all her life she has lived with a very deep mistrust in men, hence, she has never been in a serious relationship or deeply in-love. She has however, had many boyfriends, but with all of them she had the hidden agenda of unmasking their unfaithful behaviour.

Nam Gang-Ho (Yoo Teo) is a famous actor represented by the firm where Mi-Ran works, he is well-known in the industry for his incredible talent and his friendly personality, however, he has a deep mistrust in women.

Sick of being in rom-coms Gang-Ho, takes a role in an action film, he needs a trainer who is experienced in street fighting, and after seeing Mi-Ran in action he decides to ask her to be his professor.

Tied by a contract

After Gang-Ho is tied in a rumour involving his sexuality, his manager and best friends Do Won-Jun (Kim Ji-Hoon) decide to hire Mi-Ran to pretend to be his girlfriend, she quickly accepts as she also has a hidden agenda to unmask Gang-Ho.

Mi-Ran and Gang-Ho start spending more time together, in doing so, she clears out the misunderstanding she had about him. He also starts to see women in a different light, and soon enough finds out he has feelings for Mi-Ran.

During their very chaotic contract-relationship this pair finds out that they have a lot more things in common than they think, Gang-Ho’s feelings for Mi-Ran grow stronger, but she is determined to just stay until the contract ends.

These two opposite magnets keep attracting each other, but their future is uncertain as their past and careers are obstacles they might not be able to overcome.

Rom-Com feelings

‘Love To Hate You’ is a drama with a feel good vibe and plenty of comical but real characters. Everyone in the series is trying to succeed in life, and in doing so they have all hurt and been hurt. Each character is well-rounded and makes this story very enjoyable to watch. Each episode has something special to offer and it is perfect to binge with just 10 episodes running for just about over an hour.
