EP Review: GFriend – LABYRINTH

The iconic GFriend is back with their 8th mini album ‘LABYRINTH’ and dear god, it’s awesome. Let’s dive right in!

‘LABYRINTH’

The first song is ‘Labyrinth’. This song is amazing. I love the energetic instrumentals with their gorgeous voices. It has a very high, almost frantic tempo. It doesn’t let up, but it makes it so great. I literally cannot wait to see the choreo for this. I think it’s gonna be crazy.

The second track and also the title track is ‘Crossroads’. I love their harmonies. There are some interesting things happening in the background instrumentals. To be honest, I’d really love to see a behind the scenes or something along the lines of the making of.

There’s a whole storyline involved but to be fair, I don’t know enough to give you a half baked explanation. Though I do recommend you go watch this video for ‘the glass bead’.

‘Here We Are’ is up next. We start with soft, smooth strings that already had me intrigued from the first second. Then the chorus hits and WHEW okay, vocal queens.

The fourth track is ‘Eclipse’. It’s funky, it’s fun. I’m pretty sure I heard castanets which took me kinda off guard. We suddenly had some Latin influences come in, but what a welcome addition to this EP.

‘Dreamcatcher’ follows ‘Eclipse’ with a totally different style. The instrumental opening opens everything up and with their floaty vocals added to the mix we get a beautiful soft ballad.

Can we also just quickly talk about these lyrics? Because wow…

When the vague darkness swallowed me
Under the blanket alone
No matter how loudly I shout, no one
Turned around or came back
But your countless stars are in my dream
Send them in and end this long darkness
Rather than a long day, it’s dazzling
As the night approaches…

We close off the EP with ‘From Me’ and GFriend just really doesn’t disappoint. First of all, I love me some acoustic guitar. Second of all, I need a live version of this, preferably in black and white and I need it like extra dramatic. It deserves it. Absolutely beautiful.

Overall

That was the review for ‘LABYRINTH’ by GFriend. I am really in love and I’m definitely going to do a deep dive into their discography after this. Go listen to the full thing:
