[Indie Pick] Mid-Air Thief

Today we’re back with a new Indie Pick and this time we’re writing about Mid-Air Thief. If you like an interesting blend of electro, folk and experimental styles, definitely keep on reading.

Mid-Air Thief isn’t very public with his personal information. So we’ll stay focused on his discography.

Debut

He debuted in 2012 as HYOO with the EP ‘Hwa-One’. In his album description he wrote this: “An artist who likes to explore sounds and spaces, and seeks to express a pure feeling through music through his experiences in his life and various inspirations from nature.“

The same year he also came out with the mini-album ‘Haemongyang’

In 2015 he used the stage name Public Morality. He also released the album ‘Public Morality’. If you’re in need of excellent guitar playing, check this one out.

Then in 2018, Mid-Air Thief became Mid-Air Thief. In his album description of ‘Crumbling’, he wrote that there was a hip-hop group with the name Public Morality so he switched it up. This album has the voice of singer-songwriter Summer Soul who we featured in our Weekly K-Indie Report here.

His most recent comeback was with the stage name Shadow Community. The single ‘Restless Song /Halcyon’s Coffin’ is a very soft exploration with super soft vocals too.

In 2016 he also released the EP ‘Forest of Mirror’ as Shadow Community.

Features

The very first credit he has on Melon is as a composer for the 2008 track ‘Party Lady’ by Kim Seok-Min. This track is an absolute bop by the way. I don’t know if this is factually correct, but it’s a bop regardless.

If you speak Korean, I recommend checking out the album commentary track with Mid-Air Thief on the album by So!YoOn which you can check out here.

Another interesting watch is this YouTube video by Kyle Reid about him.

Mid-Air Thief or any of his aliases is a very interesting person who creates very interesting music. It’s always a surprise to see where he pops up and under which alias.

Lastly, as a closing track, I wanted to share his feature on So!YoON’s track ‘A/DC=’.
