[Review] ONEW – DICE

Soulful voice, wholesome idol and SHINee‘s leader ONEW is back with his second solo mini-album ‘DICE‘. It’s been a while since his last solo EP, but Jinki has been releasing collabs and OSTs since his first solo EP back in 2018.

We are beyond excited for this mini-album, so. let’s check out the music.

DICE

Kicking off this release we get the title track ‘DICE’ with a lovely synth line, a rhythmic guitar and ONEW’s breathtaking singing. This song is super groovy and such an easy listen. I loved its easiness and how effortlessly good the full composition is. This track is trendy, cool, and I feel it shows a different side of ONEW as soloist, a lot more chill and even more charming.

As if Jinki could not get more wholesome, he steals out hearts (AGAIN!) in the music video with ADORABLE visuals, and his very cute acting. I absolutely adore the concept, colours and cinematography of this music. Watch it below and be ready to just smile and be happy with this MV.

Next up is ‘Sunshine’ with a mix of EDM and R&B, the vocal flow in this song is absolute killer, and the little piece of melodic rapping had me absolutely in shock. The disco vibe in this song is fantastic, and the ad-libs out of this word. Perfection in almost 4 minutes.

A brand new style

Cha Cha Malone beats come along in ‘On The Way’, and this is a mix we need to get more often. Saying that this song is smooth, is a bit of an understatement. Its flow and style takes listeners out this world to music heaven, and I’m living for it. The acoustic guitar for the bridge was unexpected but yet made so much sense in this masterpiece of a song.

Love Phobia’ takes over with rather raw vocals and an immaculate vibe, we get incredible falsettos and ONEW shining in every single second of this track. This song is an absolute trip!

With a rather angsty track we get ‘Yeowoobi’. This single shows a completely different side of Jinki as a soloist, I was surprised by the rather dark and sentimental feel in this song. He delivered and took us “higher than we’ve never been”.

Closing off this mini-album we get ‘In the whale’ with an awesome and kinda disco-like synth line and an IMPECCABLE sound. The arrangement in this song is an easy listen. I loved how flawlessly closes this release in the same high note it started.

ONEW came back to take fans by surprise and release an album like no other. This mini-album is a non-skip and also an incredible listen, Jinki really said let’s change the game and he delivered.

Make sure to listen to this masterpiece of an album here.
