Welcome back to a new R&B Gem. This time we are diving into the discography of solo artist and singer-songwriter and producer Chancellor.
Chancellor (aka. Kim Jung Seung) started off in the music industry as a producer. He is well-known for being the co-founder and former member of the producing team “Duble Sidekick” formed in 2011.
So far he has over one hundred song-credits as producer, composer and writer, including his own music as well as well-known artists’ such as MC MONG, Kang Daniel, Moon Sujin, Epik High, Primary, Lee Hi, among many others.
His solo career officially started in 2015 with the release of the single ‘Make Me Stay’ featuring BUMKEY. This single was followed up by the track ‘better’ the same year, but for this release Chancellor adopted a more pop-ballad style with an early 2000s sound.
In 2016 he came back with the track ‘Rodeo’ featuring Paloalto, and the single ‘Palm Tree’ and ‘MurDa’ featuring B-Free and Dok2, respectively.
First Album
His first album ‘My Full Name’ was released the same year, for this project he included a few of his previously released singles, along with a few new tracks. This album includes some incredible musical gems and it is a non-skip from start to end.
The title track ‘Surrender’ featuring Lyn, has beautifully written and expressed lyrics. They are raw, emotional and absolutely poetic, part of them goes as:
“(…) So I get tired and hurt
Without even knowing why
There’s a tornado in my heart
I can’t stop it
Words became knives
Our hearts became ash
We can’t turn it around
It becomes an echo in my room and shouts
I couldn’t stand it (…)”

Returning to the music scene
After a little break from his solo career, Chancellor returned with the single ‘We Own the Night’ featuring MOTi in 2018. For this single he used an EDM arrangement making a fresh and unique addition to his discography, however, he still kept the usual groovy style we love.
In 2019, he released the single ‘Angel’ featuring SNSD’s TAEYEON, check the stunningly beautiful music video for this single below.
In 2020, he was joined by YOUNHA for the charming single ‘Walking In The Rain’.
In 2021, he came back stronger than ever with incredible releases and his usual pristine and smooth sound.
Starting off with the sexy single ‘Behind you’, then moving onto his second album ‘Chancellor’ and then collaborating with Johan Kim for the single ‘Beautiful’. 2021 was an amazing year for him as an artist and for fans that were looking forward to his music.
