Ode To The Artist: Lee So Ra

This week’s Ode To The Artist is dedicated to the incredibly talented Lee So Ra.

Lee So Ra, born in ‘69, is a very famous ballad singer, not to be confused with the other Lee So Ra who is a model.

She originally debuted in an indie band ‘Strange People’ in the early nineties. But then in 1995 Lee So Ra went solo and released her first album ‘Volume 1’. After that her name became a household staple and her album ‘Nunsubdal’ was listed in the top 100 of Best Korean Albums. Currently she’s signed under the label Seiren.

Despite the fact that Lee So Ra has been active for so long, there’s not a whole lot of information or fansites I could find in English. So I do hope that this at least helps a little bit to fill that gap.

This live performance took my breath away and stomped on my heart. Bless the person who put English subs on this, because it makes it even more tragic. She sang this in her own music talk show ‘Lee So Ra’s Proposal’ that ran from the late 90s until 2002.

The song ‘Track 9’ from her 7th Album remains one of my personal favorites. Thank you YouTube Algorithm.

Then there are also only a handful of collabs Lee So Ra has done. Her most famous ones are probably ‘Home’ ft. Tablo and ‘Song Request’ ft. Suga (of BTS). The latter one, earning a MAMA for Best Collaboration.

There’s also this song, that has my heart.

Lee So Ra has an amazing voice, we’ve established that. There’s just something in the way she brings out emotion and feelings in the listener that’s so incredibly delicate. If you need something to soothe your weary soul, listen to her music.

Socials

Go follow her Profile on Spotify.

She doesn’t have any social media. I did find this page on Facebook however, but I’m unsure if it is an official one or not.

I think that if you like her, you might also like Sunwoo Jung A. We gotta stick up for underrated talented badasses.
