[Review] LUMINOUS – LUMINOUS in WONDERLAND

Rookie group LUMINIOUS is back with their first album ‘LUMINOUS in WONDERLAND’, they debuted last year with the mini-album ‘VISION‘, and since then they have been steadily releasing music and growing their fan base.

With this release the are continuing the Luminous series, and with the released they focusing on “Happiness lives here” (Source: MELON).

We are in for a long listen with a double title track, let’s start this out and check the music they prepared.

LUMINOUS in WONDERLAND

A rather cinematic music box starts off the single ‘Marionette‘, and with this song we get storytelling through its composition and lyrics delivery. It has a rather dark style, but it fits the concept of a marionette being controlled perfectly. This song definitely started off this album strong. A very SOLID b-side.

The first title track ‘Creature‘ bring a House music tempo and awesome rap flow. As its predecessor this single leans on a darker style but with a hopeful feel. The baseline in this single is fantastic, and its mixing absolutely flawless.

Engine‘ is the next title track and this single goes off with a groovy guitar riff and immaculate instrumentation. The vocals in this single are incredible, I loved the harmonisations and the groove in them. The ad-libs are amazing and the rap-line added a touch of extra fun to this song.

With extra colourful sets and a kind of trippy concept, the music video takes viewers on a visual journey with a super fun concept. The sudden changes in sets were super unexpected but the members look incredible in every single of the styles included. This video deserves a lot more views, stream it below.

Your Ocean‘ comes along with synth-pop and a super refreshing composition. This summer bop is all about living your best life, I really enjoyed the carefree and sweet vibe in this single. With synth and changing beats ‘Crazy‘ plays and shows off the LUMINOUS’ members’ vocals. This single has a bit of an acoustic feel that is totally unexpected but I really liked it.

Embracing the light

Acoustic guitar begins ‘Far‘, with this single we get a more minimalistic composition that, along with the singing, brings all the feels. The piano in this song is absolutely breathtaking, and the rather delicate lyrica; delivery definitely gave a special touch to this already heartfelt song.

Hologram‘ makes this album take an unexpected turn with its Latin Pop composition and super cool style. The trumpets and amazing use of pauses make this single even more exiting. This song is a total BOP, and a very surprising b-side.

Deep bass takes over in ‘Upside Down‘, this song is all about power with the rap line delivering killer verses and dope beat drops. With a retro-pop style ‘Talking Myself‘ shakes things up in this release. The Brit-Pop feel in this song had me jamming to it from start to end, the vocal line kills it in this single, and it is a super fun listen

Last on this release in the single ‘Legend‘ with a more urban/hip-hop concept and a smooth flow. The rapping in this song is amazing, but what takes the cake is the insane vocal layering and composition in the bridge. This single has it all and it marks the end of a SOLID album.

LUMINOUS absolutely killed it with ‘LUMINOUS in WONDERLAND’. Each song shows a new colour of this group, and needless to say they absolutely nail each one of them. I cannot wait to listen to what their next era will bring.

In the meanwhile, listen to this non-skip album here.
