[Review] Kihyun – Youth

Kihyun from Monsta X is back with his new solo mini-album ‘Youth’. Let’s dive right in, because I’ve been really looking forward to this release.

Youth

We start off with the title track ‘Youth’. Right from the bat we get a beautiful pop rock track with Kihyun’s fantastic vocals. I’m in love with the lyricism which was done by Kim Eana. The outro is fantastic and when the instrumentals kind of fall away, it is absolutely mesmerizing.

The next track ‘Bad Liar’ was co-written and co-composed by Monsta X member Hyungwon. This track is such a vibe. I love the falsetto we’re getting. We’re leaning more towards pop on this one with a dark and dramatic instrumental. The bridge is exquisite.

‘STARDUST’ is a fun, up tempo track with a lively synth and a dance rhythm. This is such a happy listen, instant smiles guaranteed.

Next up is ‘where is this love’. This is another track co-written and co-composed by Hyungwon. Apparently the song was inspired by the 2004 movie ‘Closer’. This ballad is really lovely and has enough momentum in the chorus that it’ll get you a tad emotional as well.

The closing track ”Cause of you’. This one was co-written by Kihyun himself. This track is an easy-listening pop track with a light instrumental and a nice airy quality. Also did you spot the surprise Jooheon vocal?

Overall ‘Youth’ by Kihyun is a lovely mini-album. You can find it on Spotify here.
