[Review] (G)I-DLE – I LOVE

The girls from (G)I-DLE are back with their new mini-album ‘I LOVE’ and for this one we’re getting stunning visuals, a social message and fantastic vocals. Let’s dive right in!

I LOVE

We start off with the amazing title track ‘Nxde’. This track borrows part of the melody of the opera ‘Carmen’ and visuals from Marilyn Monroe and ‘Moulin Rouge’. I’m loving this so much! The beat is amazing and I love the violin from ‘Carmen’.

In the music video they all look stunning! They are usually put on a platform where they are always portraying someone else. I also enjoyed the animation parts and the reference to the Banksy art piece that was shredded.

‘LOVE’ follows that. This is a rock inspired track song with heavy electronic guitars that sound a bit shredded, which is super dope. I really enjoyed the catchiness of the full song and the vocals are stunning. The harmonies in the bridge were super lovely!

Next up is ‘CHANGE’. Minnie has co-writing and co-composing credits on this one. This is a very cool pop track with a cool beat. I’m obsessed with the harmonies and Minnie’s vocals are super lovely. She did a great job with this track. Soyeon’s rap verse was a vibe.

Next up

‘Reset’ starts off with an acoustic guitar which was unexpected. This pop ballad is super nice and I would love to hear a live version of this. This feels like one of those end-of-concert tracks that would get you all emotional.

After that we get ‘Sculpture’. This one brings back the faster beats and the sass and confidence we know from (G)I-DLE. The instrumentation gives it that old-timey feel. The descending harmonies gave me goosebumps.

The closing track is ‘DARK (X-FILE)’. This is very reminiscent of the dark tone of (G)I-DLE in their very beginning. I am obsessed. The breaths in the backing track were a super cool addition.

Overall ‘I LOVE’ by (G)I-DLE is a cohesive listen with a very cool message and some very interesting instrumentals. I thoroughly enjoyed this listen!
