[Review] Yumi’s Cells 2

Yumi’s Cells just finished its second season. We absolutely loved the first one, and we had to watch this one too. For today’s drama review we are once again diving into Yumi’s mind and the big changes she went through during this season.

(Warning: there will be a few spoiler in this review)

Prime Cell

Yumi’s Cells’ season two was once again directed by Lee Sang-Yeob, but this time along with Joo Sang-kyu, the screenplay was written by Song Jae-Jung, Kim Kyung-Ran and Kim Yoon Joo.

Season two starts with Yumi (Kim Go-Eun) dealing with her break-up with Ku Woong (Ahn Bo-Hyun). She is heartbroken and wants to mend her relationship with him, but his circumstances make him distance himself even further from Yumi.

She decides to focus her efforts on her work, and little by little starts to interact more often with Yoo Ba-Bi (Jin Young) , a character that was introduced in season one. Ba-Bi is a kind hearted guy, and a supportive co-worker.

They both grow closer as they realise they have a lot in common. Yu Ba-Bi decides to make the first move and invite Yumi out, but her heart is not ready for a new relationship.

Yumi unconsciously becomes more and more fond of Ba-Bi and his sweet personality, and eventually realises that she likes him too and she is ready to start dating once again.

For this season, besides seeing the relationship development between Yumi and Ba-Bi, we also get to see Yumi achieving her long-forgotten dream: becoming a writer.

Ba-Bi becomes the main supporter of Yumi going after her dream, he sees the talent in her and pushes her to walk towards her new career. He becomes her fan and is present to support her ups and downs in her way to success.

The Way To Success

When Yumi finally gets noticed as a writer, their relationship faces a new challenge and they become long-distance after Ba-Bi is sent to work in another branch. They both try to make things work out, but Yumi decides to break-up with him after finding out his heart was shaken by a third person.

Yumi once again becomes single and refocuses all her efforts to one goal. She works every day and finally her hard work pays off and she becomes not just published but also a best selling author.

In Yumi’s mind there is a new hierarchy going now, after her break-up with Ba-Bi, her writing cell became the main cell, and she is now at her full potential as a writer but lacking the aspect that just her “Love” cell could give her.

As she becomes more successful we also find out that Ku-Woong finally made his dream come true and he is now the CEO of his company. He really tries to reconnect with Yumi, but she can only offer him her friendship and support.

Prioritising Life

For this season of ‘Yumi’s Cells’ viewers get to see a new side of Yumi, starting with getting her heart broken we see how she pulls herself together and her growth as a person. In season one we see how she learns to become her own top priority, but for this one, Yumi becomes a lot more self-aware of the person she is and what she wants.

On her way to success, we also see a relatable side of Yumi, her professional ups and downs, mistakes and challenges, but they are what make this drama so fun and enjoyable to watch.

We don’t know if there will be a third season, but we hope there is. If you haven’t caught up with this season you can watch it in Viki, and make sure to watch the trailer below.
