In this edition of our drama review, we’re diving into a TVING original that’s got the perfect blend of comedy, romance, and nostalgia. Let’s talk about ‘My Dearest Nemesis’ , written by Kim Soo-yeon and directed by Lee So-hyun—a light-hearted yet emotionally grounded drama about complicated first loves and unexpected reunions.
Baek Soo-jung (Moon Ga-young) is a successful and fiercely driven woman who has climbed the corporate ladder to become a team leader at a major department store. Her strong personality and resilience, however, are the results of a difficult past. Bullied throughout her school years and struggling to make friends, Soo-jung found solace in the online world, playing video games on behalf of her younger brother to prevent him from being bullied.
In that digital space, she found two important people: Seo Ha-jin (Im Se-mi), an older girl who became her closest friend despite the age gap, and Ban Joo-yeon, who pretended to be older but turned out to be the same age as her younger brother. When the truth came out, Soo-jung felt betrayed by Joo-yeon and abruptly cut off all contact, ending what was her first love in a painfully unresolved way.
Reuniting
Years later, Soo-jung is thriving professionally but emotionally guarded. Her life is turned upside down when a new manager, Joo-yeon (Choi Hyun-wook), is hired at her workplace. Unbeknownst to her, he is in fact the same Joo-yeon from her past. The two begin working together with some tension but no recognition of their history.
As they spend more time together, their chemistry becomes undeniable, and feelings begin to resurface. However, the growing romance is complicated by their unresolved past, Joo-yeon’s family dynamics, and workplace pressures. The story plays with the classic “enemies-to-lovers” dynamic but adds depth through shared history and emotional vulnerability.
In A Nutshell
‘My Dearest Nemesis’ is the kind of drama that’s easy to binge and hard to forget. It’s light enough to lift your spirits but filled with enough emotional beats to make it meaningful. The cast brings warmth and authenticity to their characters, and it’s especially satisfying to see familiar faces in such heartfelt roles. With only a few episodes, it’s the perfect drama for anyone craving something romantic, fun, and filled with sweet tension.
