[Review] Dream To You

In this edition of our drama review, we are talking about a recent production with a storyline all about growing, healing, and finding your way back to the dreams you once had. Let’s talk about ‘Dream To You’.

Written by Jung Eun-bi and directed by Yoo Sun-dong, ‘Dream To You’ follows two childhood friends who once shared the same dream but drifted apart during their teenage years. Years later, they meet again as adults, and their reunion brings back old wounds, forgotten dreams, and feelings they thought they had left behind.

Two Friends, One Dream

Joo Yi-jae (Lee Hye-ri) is a reporter who struggles to make ends meet but refuses to lose her positive attitude towards life. She works at a TV channel on a variety show and is known for her incredible “can-do” attitude, always trying to find a solution even when things seem impossible.

Woo Soo-bin (Hwang In-youp), on the other hand, is a successful film director who has already achieved his breakthrough in the industry after his debut film became a major success.

When they were teenagers, Soo-bin had completely different plans for his future. He was expected to become a doctor, but meeting Yi-jae changed everything. Inspired by her passion and their shared dreams, he decided that he wanted to become a successful film director instead.

Years later, Soo-bin returns to their hometown and reunites with Yi-jae. However, the girl he remembers is no longer there.

Yi-jae has gone through a difficult few years and wants nothing to do with him. Soo-bin, however, refuses to give up and tries to convince her to work on a film based on something they wrote together when they were teenagers.

She wants nothing to do with the project, or him.

Healing Together

As Soo-bin reconnects with people from his hometown, he slowly discovers everything Yi-jae has gone through since he left.

The more he learns about her struggles, the more he understands why she has built such strong walls around herself. He also begins to feel guilty for leaving her behind, even though he eventually realizes that her struggles cannot simply be blamed on his departure.

Despite her resistance, Soo-bin continues trying to get through to her. More than anything, he wants Yi-jae to rediscover her dream and realize that it is not too late to pursue it.

For Yi-jae, Soo-bin’s return is equally disruptive.

Seeing him again brings back memories she had worked hard to bury, but it also forces her to reconsider the dreams she once had. As he challenges her current way of living, she begins to understand that not everything that went wrong in her life was because Soo-bin left. Some of her decisions also shaped the path she took.

Eventually, she agrees to work with him and bring their teenage dream back to life.

Finding Their Way Back

As Yi-jae and Soo-bin begin working together on the film, their old feelings slowly resurface.

Yi-jae discovers that despite becoming a successful director, Soo-bin is still, at his core, the same boy she met years ago. He has his own fears, insecurities, and unresolved wounds that he has carried into adulthood.

Working together allows them to see each other beyond their teenage memories and understand who they have become.

Their relationship gradually becomes more complicated as their friendship deepens, and before long, they find themselves falling for each other all over again.

But this time, they are not simply teenagers chasing a dream. They are adults who have experienced failure, disappointment and loss, and they have to decide whether they are brave enough to try again.

Together, they work towards creating the film they once dreamed about while also finding a way to heal from the past.

A Warm-Hearted Story

Dream To You’ completely captivated us with its soft storyline and warm-hearted characters.

At its core, this is a story about people learning how to let go of the past without forgetting it. Many of the characters are carrying their own wounds, and watching them slowly heal and move towards a better future is one of the drama’s biggest strengths.

The romance between Yi-jae and Soo-bin develops naturally, while the secondary couple brings another layer of warmth and chemistry to the story. The supporting characters also play an important role, complementing the main storyline and helping the characters grow throughout the series.

Lee Hye-ri and Hwang In-youp bring a lovely dynamic to their characters, particularly as they transition from childhood friends to adults rediscovering their connection. Their relationship feels both nostalgic and mature, making their journey especially enjoyable to watch.

Dream To You’ is a gentle and comforting drama about friendship, first dreams, healing, second chances and finding your way back to the people who once mattered most.

If you’re looking for a warm-hearted drama with romance, emotional growth and plenty of wholesome moments, make sure to give ‘Dream To You’ a try.
