[Review] Xdinary Heroes – OVERLOAD

The boys from Xdinary Heroes are back with their second mini-album ‘OVERLOAD’. Let’s dive right in!

OVERLOAD

We open the album with ‘Zzz…’. What a wonderful opening! This is a playful take on pop rock with some really fun electronic samples. I’m absolutely in love with the chorus! The vocals are fantastic and overall this is a lovely vibe.

We’re going radical with ‘Hair Cut‘. They’re using a metaphor to mean that theey will cut the darkness that blocks their vision away, hence the hair cuts. The chanting, slightly deranged laughing and the snips from the scissors create such a cool effect. The rap moment is a vibe, I dig it. The intensity in this title track is amazing.

LUNATIC‘ follows that. This one is perfect for Halloween time with its horror theme. The opening scream had me do a double take. The guitar is really popping off in this one. This is great!

‘Crack in the mirror’ is described as: “A track that contains the turmoil of looking at the multi-layered self, and the confusion experienced during the process of growth.” I very much enjoyed the layering and the spaciousness they created.

Next up is ‘Ghost‘. This one is all about hallucinations and internal conflict. The accordion they used is absolutely haunting. The whistling in the chorus also adds to that effect.

XMAS‘ follows that. If you had any expectations for a Christmas song, be prepared to be surprised regardless. I’m obsessed with the shredding of the guitar. The beat and the vocal ascent in the hook. The bass in this is fantastic.

The closing track is the instrumental version of the title track ‘Hair Cut’.

Overall ‘OVERLOAD’ by Xdinary Heroes is a fantastic comeback and shows how talented they are. You can find it on Spotify here.
