[Review] BLACKPINK – BORN PINK

BLACKPINK is back in your area, and this time they returned with the long awaited second album ‘BORN PINK‘. A couple of weeks ago they released the single ‘Pink Venom‘, and we are still obsessed with this catchy bop.

Since their last comeback, BLINKS got Rosé‘s and Lisa‘s solo debuts, and plenty of content with the four of them shining in every single project they took on. We are very excited for this album, let’s get right into the music.

BORN PINK

The pre-release single ‘Pink Venom‘ opens up this release, we have already written about this single, so check it here, and watch the video below.

Next up is the title track ‘Shut Down‘ with an arrangement including a sample of the classic piece ‘La Campanella’ and trendy hip-hop beats. This single definitely leans a lot into Blackpink’s hip-hop style, with Lisa and Jennie’s rapping and Jisoo and Rosé spicing things up with their melodic vocals.

The music video brings along plenty of aesthetics and references to their previous music videos since ‘Boombayah’, but with a new, older and more mature Blackpink. This video is a bit of a throwback and also nostalgic for first generation BLINKS. Check it below.

With very dope beats ‘Typa Girl‘ comes up next, I absolutely love the vibe in this single. The beats drops, changes in tempo and full lyric flow are addictive and will have you jamming to this track.

Yeah Yeah Yeah‘ comes along with a nice retro synth, this song is a bit of a throwback to previous generation YG artists with its sound. It is a lovely, fun and charming listen, what makes it even better is that is was co-written by Rosé and Jisoo.

In an unexpected turn, Rosé’s solo single ‘Hard To Love‘ plays next. The pop feel and the guitar instrumentation throughout this full track are amazing, and her vocals really go off in this song, just flawless high notes with a touch of angst.

Piano orchestration and plenty of feeling follow up in ‘The Happiest Girl‘, this ballad is a stunning listen, the harmonisations, passionate singing, and very soft tones are a tearjerker. It truly feels like a sad and emotional break-up song.

Tally‘ plays with a rock sound influence and BLACKPINK’s distinctive mix of vocals and rap. This song feels sort of raw with its lyrics and at the same time nostalgic. Definitely a cool listen.

Last on this album is ‘Ready For Love‘, this song has some serious summer hit vibes and it is definitely a rather interesting end for this album. Packed with energy good vibe and Jisoo’s, Lisa’s, Jennie’s and Rosé’s charm.
