[Review] A Piece Of Your Mind

After watching ‘When The Weather is Nice’, the next recommendation I got was the drama we are reviewing today. It was on my list as the male lead is one of my favourite actors, and it definitely is a nice addition to my very short list of healing dramas. Today we are talking about ‘A Piece Of Your Mind’.

Written by Lee Sook-yun and directed by Lee Sang-yeob, ‘A Piece Of Your Mind’ tells the story of Moon Ha-won (Jung Hae-in), the owner of an AI company who used to live in Norway when he was in his teens. He went back to Korea after his mother passed away, and Han Seo-woo (Chae Soo-bin) a recording engineer with a tragic past that keeps haunting her mind.

Music, past and present

Ha-won and Seo-woo meet by chance after he listens to one of her works while passing by the recording studio where she works. Their lives become tangled after she agrees to help Moon Soon-ho (Lee Ha-na), the new owner of the recording studio to purchase handmade plates crafted by Ha-won’s first love Kim Ji-soo (Park Joo-hyun).

Ji-soo and Seo-woo become close friends, but tragedy hits and Seo-woo starts a healing journey to forgive herself and let go.

In this process she becomes close to Ha-won and these two start developing feelings for each other at the same time they soothe and comfort their emotional scars.

The power of healing

This slow-paced drama really focuses on the emotional healing of its characters, all of them had a different way of dealing with their feelings but they found comfort and security amongst themselves without noticing.

Something worth noting about ‘A Piece Of Your Mind’ is how the characters are interconnected with each other but none of them are aware of this. At the beginning this felt as a drag out for me personally but as the drama progresses viewers will understand that it was plotted that way for character growth, which was needed given the personality and emotional baggage of each of them.

A setting I especially enjoy watching was the one in Seo-woo’s place, all of her flatmates became basically family and her friendship with Jeon Eun-joo (Lee Sang-hee) was wholesome, supportive and pure. They kept it real but were honest and very sweet. On top of that, the fact that Lee Jung-eun was casted as their flatmate Kim Min-jung gave a special touch to this setting. They were wholesome and added quality to this healing drama.

Final Thoughts

‘A Piece Of Your Mind’ is a drama that will not be everyone’s cup of tea. However the acting is fantastic, the OST and music is incredible and has a warm and somehow candid scenography that will make you feel what the characters are feeling, making it for sure an interesting watch.
