Today’s R&B Gem is a singer-songwriter and rapper that never ceases to amaze us with her music and her adorable personality. She truly is a gem in the Korean Music industry. Today we will be talking about Heize.
Beginnings
Jang Da-hye (a.k.a. Heize) debuted in 2014 with the single ‘After I’ve Wandered a Bit’ featuring Crucial Star. From this very first single she showed her capabilities as a singer and also as a rapper. If you haven’t listened to this gem of a song, listen to it below.
In the same year she released her very first EP ‘Heize’, which included her debut single. Heize has writing credits for all the songs released in this EP. You can listen to this release here.
In 2015, she took part in the first season of ‘Unpretty Rapstar’ and released the singles ‘My Boyfriend Says Thank You’ and ‘Sweet Pume Pume’ feat. Monokim. Her participation in ‘Unpretty Rapstar’ got her a lot of attention from the public, below you can her performance in the semi-finals.
Breakthrough and present
‘And July’ is Heize’s second EP, released in 2016, this extended play received a lot of attention and even charted. One of the most well known tracks of this release is her collaboration with Dean in the track ‘And July’.
Between 2017 and 2018 she released the extended plays ‘/// (You, Clouds, Rain)’ and ‘Wind’, along with the singles ‘In the Time Spent with You’ and ‘First Sight’.
Between 2019 and 2020, Heize released her first full length album ‘She’s Fine’ and the two EPs ‘Late Autumn’ and ‘The Lyricist’, all of these releases ranked well in the charts and helped Heize to establish herself a renowned singer, composer, lyricist and musician. Legendary Collaborations and OST participation
Heize has a lengthy and incredible list of features in her releases. Well known singers such as EXO’s CHEN, GIRIBOY, Simon Dominic, Sunwoo Jung Ah, Colde among many others have taken part in many of her songs. Below you can listen to a few of these collabs.
She also took part on the OST of dramas such as ‘Goblin’, ‘Prison Playbook’, ‘Hotel Del Luna’, ‘When the Camellia Blooms’ among others. Many of them became extremely popular and peaked the Korean music charts. Check them down below.
