[Review] WEi – Identity: First Sight

OUI Entertainment’s newest idol group WEi just debuted with their first EP ‘IDENTITY: First Sight’ with Jang Daehyeon, Kim Donghan, Yoo Yongha, Kim Yohan, Kang Seokhwa, and Kim Junseo as the line up. This extended play looks very promising.

Let’s dive in!

TWILIGHT

The dance track ‘TWILIGHT’ starts off this release. This is the title track for this EP, overall this song has a certain dark vibe in it that I really like. Little inclusions like the whistling and the bass made it super enjoyable and a very interesting debut title track. The member Daehyeon co-wrote this track along with Pentagon’s Hui.

The music video is visually appealing, I really like the colour scheme and the way they play with the shots. Watch it below.

DOREMIFA’ is next with a more playful and joyful sound. The members Daehyeon and Yohan co-wrote this track. This song is an easy listen and it flows without any major changes and it is kinda refreshing to listen to.

With more synth and EDM we get the pop-ballad ‘TIMELESS’, once again a few of the members took part in the writing of this song. Overall this song is soft and had some great vocals, the rapline did a fantastic job in their delivery, and the high note/falsetto at the end of the bridge was just flawless.

Next we get ‘Hug You’, co-written by some of the members, this track was owned by the vocal line of WEi. These guys are super talented and I loved how this song went from dance song to pop-ballad in a snap. It is a super interesting listen.

Last on this EP we get the track ‘Fuze’ produced by Daehyeon and co-written by a few of the members. The layering of this song is insane, with EDM and a synth sound that I absolutely loved. It incorporates some very interesting house music elements and it leaves a very strong impression and kind of an open ending that I hope will be a new EP in the near future.

WEi for sure left a very strong impact with this first release. I absolutely loved the type of music and sound they are going for and what I like even more is how much the members are involved in the music.
