Ode To The Artist: Lee Hyori

Today I really wanted to talk about an amazing, iconic, crazy talented lady: Lee Hyori.

She’s been active in the music industry for over twenty years and has shown that she’s not only a talented singer-songwriter, she also has a heart of gold. Lee Hyori is well known for fighting for animal rights and other good causes.

If you take a look at some of her solo discography you can see that she has messages that were way ahead of her time.

The start

She started off as the leader of the crazy successful girl group Fin.K.L. that debuted in 1998.

They were active until 2005 when they went on hiatus, but never officially disbanded. In September 2019 they released a new single together for the first time in 14 years.

Solo work

Lee Hyori started releasing solo music since 2003 and has been really successful in her career.

With her album ‘Stylish’ and the hit single ‘10 minutes’ she took away 7 awards at the South Korean Music Awards, including three daesangs.

Her song ‘ChittyChitty BangBang’ is on a whole other level of iconic.

The song that I first heard and the one that got me curious about her music was ‘Bad Girls’.

She did a collab stage with CL later that year because CL had released the song ‘The Baddest Female’. Please check it out, it’s amazing.

Also take a look at her song ‘Miss Korea’ which she also sings in the collab stage.

Her latest releases which she wrote and composed herself are ‘Seoul’ and ‘Black’. And especially ‘Black’ has a special place in my heart. The lyrics talk about the struggle to find yourself and it’s beautiful.

‘I dyed my hair to deny myself
The red lipstick hid my pursed lips
The thing that shook behind
The colored lens
It was me who didn’t want to be me’

To be honest, she has so many amazing songs that it’s crazy hard to choose which ones to feature. Please go check out her Spotify and just listen to the full albums.

Lee Hyori currently has her own show ‘Hyori’s Homestay’ together with her husband Lee Sang-soon.

Go take a look at her Instagram.
