Fantagio boy group ASTRO is back with their 7th mini album ‘GATEWAY’. AROHAS around the world were looking forward to this brand new release, so let’s wait no more and dive right in.
GATEWAY
The title track ‘Knock’ starts off the album with a pop-electronic sound that suits ASTRO’s vibe and overall concept. The music video is packed in stunning visuals and effects, and it will be definitely eye candy to the viewers. Check it out down below.
‘When You Call My Name’ is next with some incredible sound layering and mixing. I liked how they included arcade game inspired sounds at the beginning and how they were layered and then later on replaced with synth and electronic beats. This mix made this song an absolute bop, super fun to listen to and also very unique.
‘SOMEBODY LIKE’ follows with a more pop style and with happy beats. The vocals in this song are really good and the members’ harmonization for the chorus is super sweet and adorable. The rapline also stands out in this song with their very deep and raspy voice. And overall I felt that ‘SOMEBODY LIKE’ is a perfect track to interact with the public in a concert. It just has the right vibe and rhythm for it.
With a slower tempo we have ‘We Still’, the vocal line really delivered in this song, those high notes were flawless and quite emotional.
Following a similar vibe is ‘12 Hours’, this song feels quite minimalistic sound wise. It is not fully acoustic but it has parts where there’s just a piano playing along with the singing or rapping. This style just made me eager for a fully acoustic version of this track, because I know it will be incredible.
Transitioning flawlessly and nearly unnoticeably we have ‘Lights On’ closing off this extended play with some incredible singing and legendary rapping. This song is by far my favourite one in the EP. It has the ballad elements of the previous two songs but it also incorporates the pop/synth tunes of the first ones.
I felt that it was the perfect closure for the EP and probably one of my favourite B-sides by ASTRO. Make sure to check out this full mini-album below.
