Album Review: Crush – From Midnight To Sunrise

Crush released his new album: ‘From Midnight To Sunrise’ a couple of days ago, but it’s only just now on Spotify and after a listening party I found it too beautiful not to write a review about it. Crush wrote most of the lyrics on the album and helped with the arrangement and composing.

The music world is blessed with 12 new songs, so let’s dive right in.

‘From Midnight To Sunrise’

Watch the short film as well.

We start the album off with the song ‘From Midnight To Sunrise’ and oh my God, it made all my smooth jazz aspirations come true. The instrumentation is simply gorgeous and with Crush humming, it makes it a beautiful opener.

Wake Up’ featuring DEAN is the second track. This duo is god tier. There’s a lot of ambient sounds and with the birdsongs it’s a literal wake up call. What a great way to start the day.

Up next is the song ‘Wonderlust’ featuring Band Wonderlust. It’s the shortest song on the tracklist, clocking in under two minutes. There’s beatboxing, gorgeous soft instrumentation. ‘Wonderlust’ is just so soft, I love it. I think it’s the perfect song for when you want to chill out after a long day at work. Imagine yourself just walking through the city, and catch your breath.

Band Wonderlust is a frequent collaborator with Crush and they have their own merch. I kind of need this shirt in my life.

With You’ is a love song and if Crush is serenading you, you might just be the luckiest person on the planet. Crush’s vocal quality really shows off in this and I can’t wait to see a live performance of you. I wonder if people are going to start playing this during weddings.

After ‘With You’ we have the title track ‘Alone’ which just makes me sad really. Get ready to feel your feelings.

Guys, really read the lyrics. I feel like ‘Alone’ and ‘Lay Your Head On Me’ could walk hand in hand. How comforting. Also the strings *chef’s kiss*.

Tika-Taka’ featuring DPR Live is the sixth song. It’s the first track that’s a little bit more upbeat, but only by a little. DPR Live is fantastic as usual.

Sunset’ has a beautiful guitar sound. There’s not a whole bunch of instrumentation happening until the two minute mark, it’s a very clean, straightforward sound but it works so well. Then layers and layers are added, which brings up the intensity. Then, with the same guitar intro, we get closure. Stunning.

Butterfly’ is almost completely in English with a very smooth vibe. The vocals are fantastic. Stan talent, stan Crush. The ‘far away from us’ had me shook.

Next up we have ‘Ibiza’. A shift from the mood of most of the album. This is an upbeat, funky song. It is super fun to listen to!

Cloth’ just makes me wanna wrap up in a blanket and have a glass of wine. I love the word play between ‘cloth to you’ and ‘close to you’.

‘Sleep No More’ is beautiful and feels like a lullaby despite the title.

The last track on ‘From Midnight To Sunrise’ is ‘Nighty Night’ featuring Zion T., another god tier collab. Their voices just work so well together.

Overall, a fantastic album that I’m sure I’ll play to death during this Christmas season or just anytime I need something soft to listen to. I don’t know how Crush does it, but he always delivers beautiful songs.
