‘Love Again’ is a fun romantic comedy that explores a full-on love corner. Directed by Park Yong-Jib, the film follows Hyun-Woo (Kwon Sang-Woo) and Sun-Young (Lee Jung-Hyun), a divorced couple who have officially gone their separate ways. Hyun-Woo is enjoying his newfound single life, convinced that the marriage chapter is firmly behind him, until Sun-Young suddenly reappears and ends up dating one of his high school classmates.
The complication? Sang-Cheol (Lee Jong-Hyuk) has absolutely no idea that Sun-Young was once married to Hyun-Woo. Cue plenty of awkward encounters, misunderstandings, and increasingly complicated emotions.
The film is at its best when it embraces the ridiculousness of the situation. There are some genuinely hilarious scenes that had me cackling, and the cast has enough chemistry to make the increasingly messy relationships entertaining to watch. Kwon Sang-Woo is particularly enjoyable as Hyun-Woo, who starts off seemingly comfortable with his new life but clearly has more unresolved feelings than he wants to admit.
There’s also a more serious story underneath all the comedy. The film touches on the couple’s failed marriage and the emotional wounds left behind, particularly Sun-Young’s loneliness. I just wish it had explored some of these elements more deeply. The miscarriage, in particular, is mentioned but never given the emotional weight it deserves, and spending more time with Sun-Young’s experience of loneliness within her first marriage could have added a lot more depth to her character and the relationship.
Because of that, ‘Love Again’ sometimes feels like it has more potential than the finished film manages to deliver. There are interesting ideas here about divorce, second chances, unresolved feelings, and whether people can really move on from a relationship that shaped their lives. But the movie often chooses the lighter route instead of digging deeper.
Still, I had a really good time watching it. It’s funny, entertaining, and the increasingly complicated romantic situation keeps things moving. It may not be the most profound romantic comedy out there, but sometimes you just want something that makes you laugh and keeps you entertained for a couple of hours.
Overall, ‘Love Again’ is a solid, easygoing watch with plenty of funny moments and enough romantic chaos to keep things interesting. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the mood for a messy love story with a healthy dose of comedy.
