[Review] SF9 – TENACITY

SF9 are celebrating their 10th anniversary with their second album, ‘TENACITY‘. These guys have delivered music spanning many genres since their debut, and they continue to add new vibes and expand their discography even further.

Let’s dive in and see how they are celebrating this very special anniversary.

TENACITY

The title track, ‘Without Wings‘, opens up this release with Afrobeats vibes and a groovy tempo that feels both summery and sexy. The harmonies in this track work flawlessly alongside the falsettos and instrumental additions, elevating its sound and adding even more to its sensuality.

Curtain Call‘ takes over next with dreamy synths and pop elements. This single feels quite cinematic thanks to its arrangement, making it perfect for an OST. The vocals are absolutely stunning, with amazing ad-libs and breathtaking backing vocals.

We move into EDM and groovy rhythms with ‘PREASSURE‘. This track is quite an interesting listen, with a beat that feels almost game-like alongside its rap sections, while the vocals soften the sound and create a very cool contrast.

Y2K vibes and pop move into the release with ‘One More Kiss‘. This track is one of our favorite B-sides on the album, with its sexy and effortlessly cool progression and smooth instrumentation. It totally goes off with its playful interplay between the rapping and vocals.

Cross My Mind‘ is next, bringing a more sensual and sophisticated tempo. The beat progression and instrumentation are fantastic, with the build-up serving as the main highlight. We loved how, instead of a traditional beat drop, the track gradually introduces additional instrumental layers that add so much musicality to the song.

A lovely guitar introduces ‘Too Easily‘, and the single flows in a lighthearted yet smooth manner. We loved the sectioning and how it delivers such a cool and totally vibey listen.

Mr. Bang Bang‘ takes over to deliver peak energy with choppy beats, clapping rhythms, and a groove that feels very reminiscent of second- and third-generation K-pop. This single feels like the perfect performance track: theatrical, dramatic, and vocally powerful.

We lean into more hip-hop beats with ‘Best Mistake‘, and we are loving the trap-inspired sections in this track. The hook is incredibly catchy, while the rap sections feel angsty but remain totally smooth.

REAL FROM THE FAKE‘ is up next, delivering a darker mood through its composition and an edgy overall feel. This is definitely a new sound for SF9, and we really like how they experiment with autotune during the rap sections while allowing the vocals to provide a powerful contrast.

We reach the end of this lovely album with ‘Do You Want Me‘. This R&B-pop single is an incredibly easy listen, with delicate and soft singing, melodic rapping, pretty ad-libs, and smooth instrumentation. Its relaxed flow wraps up the release on the perfect note.

SF9 celebrate their 10th anniversary with a fantastic release. This album is a very fun listen, incredibly diverse, yet still unmistakably SF9 at its core. Make sure to stream ‘TENACITY’ and celebrate a decade of their music with them!
