The Ordinary – Is it worth the hype?

Online bloggers, digital media influencers, celebrities and probably your neighbours next door have heard of The Ordinary skincare, a revolutionary brand that has given us a lot to talk about, not just with its complicated scientific style names but also with its incredibly low prices.

I found this brand while trying to find skincare products that did not have harsh chemical mixes that would most likely upset my already extremely delicate skin. After researching and checking mostly positive reviews, I decided to give it a go.

It was a difficult task to find a shop in Dublin that had it in store. Most of the products are sold online and just a few are sold in retailers in Dublin. I wanted to start using it ASAP. So I started my journey from shop to shop until I finally found one that sold The Ordinary products.

When I first bought it at Arnotts, they had just a small part of the range (the hype hadn’t started back then), and I decided to begin my journey by using its Salicylic Acid 2% Solution and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%.

I have an acne prone with combination (mostly oily) skin type, I’m also allergic to products with harsh chemical mixes or strong smells and even products with natural ingredients will make my skin break-out easily.

The Ordinary has only the necessary elements needed in a skincare product, no additives or fragrances. It’s the perfect mix for skin types like mine, in addition to this, by being so simple, their prices are affordable and also portable when travelling.

An important aspect of this brand is that they provide the pros and cons of their products. Most of them have a warning sign stating that the products should be used with a good moisturiser and SPF lotion of at least 30. The honesty about the way that the product would work is something that definitely got me as a consumer.

In the case of the Salicylic Acid 2% Solution, the product will help your skin by diminishing the appearance of blemishes on not broken-out skin, and joined with the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% it helps to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion as well as the production of sebum helping your skin healthy and moisturized.

I would highly recommend checking The Ordinary webpage to find the most suitable skin care routine for yourself.

They have an excellent description with which product to use depending on skin type and skin problem specifying when and how to use the products and the right combination for each person depending on the issue they want to tackle.

After buying the Salicylic Acid 2% Solution and the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, I also decided to try their Squalane Cleanser, a make-up remover that works wonders and really cleanses your pores, and their Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5  a moisturizer that does not sit on the skin and hydrates your skin even when you have an overproduction of oil like in my case.

Overall, the hype surrounding The Ordinary skincare is well deserved. These products have helped my skin and my complexion over the last 7 months I have been using them.

I will definitely continue to use them and explore the rest of the products that this vegan/ cruelty-free and affordable brand has to offer.
