[Review] U-MIN – nineteen

Today we got a brand-new debut with the singer U-MIN and her mini-album ‘nineteen’. Let’s dive in!

nineteen

We start the mini-album with the first of two title tracks, ‘YOU&I’. This title track is catchy, happy, bubbly and a total earworm. U-MIN is able to carry the song well and I’m intrigued by her vocal range.

‘CRAZY’ is the second title track and starts with a rap verse. It’s a bit more toned down from the bubbliness from the previous track. Is there such a thing as bubbly R&B? It shows a more mature U-MIN and I dig it. Honestly, it’s just a bop!

We’re getting a ballad with ‘by that one word’. This mid-tempo ballad has some really great vocals and I would love to hear a live version of this. I really enjoyed the instrumentation with the synths.

‘Thank you’ follows that up with a second mid-tempo ballad and she shows her richer, lower timbre. It’s smooth.

After that we get ‘High School Life’ which brings us some hip-hop! U-MIN wrote the lyrics for this one together with Ban Blank. I am in love with the addition of the brass to the instrumentation.

The last track on the mini-album is the instrumental version of ‘YOU&I’.

‘nineteen’ by U-MIN is a really interesting debut mini-album. It displays all the different sides of herself as an artist and I’m curious to see which path she’ll take. You can find the mini-album on Spotify here.
