[Review] ONEUS – DEVIL

Our boys from ONEUS are back with their new first full-length album ‘DEVIL’. Seoho, RAVN and Leedo all have multiple writing credits on this album. We’ve been waiting for this one so let’s dive right in!

DEVIL

We start off with ‘Intro : Devil is in the detail’. It clocks in just over a minute and a half and immediately grabs the attention with its low voice and its interesting layering. That ‘Skrr’ had me cackling.

Next up is the title track ‘No Diggity’. It’s very interesting to see ONEUS in this dark, EDM driven style. The song is catchy as hell. I’m in love with the pre-chorus and the way it helps build the hype. Leedo with his hella deep voice had me shook, together with Xion’s long hair.

After that we get ‘Leftover’ which gave me a literal genre whiplash. We’re going soft pop hours with this one. It sounds quite happy but they’re comparing leftover food with a break-up and to be honest that’s kinda tragic.

‘Incomplete’ has an incredible guitar line that I wish they had implemented more. I’m loving the ebb and flow of this track with the intense singing and the quieter moments.

We slide right into the next track, ‘Youth’. This might be one of my favorites. It feels very wholesome and their voices are incredible. It’s more rock based and it fits them so well. I really want a live version of this one.

‘Bbusyeo’ was pre-released and we wrote about it here. I’ve added in the music video in case you want to see their duality.

Next up

Next up is the single ‘Rewind’. This song feels a bit all over the place but it’s so interesting to follow. I don’t know how they made all of these different elements and samples work but they do surprisingly. I love the harmonizations in the back.

‘Lion Heart’ follows that with intense EDM sounds in the background but as with ‘Incomplete’ they play really well with the silences and pauses. I’m digging the hype in this one. I desperately need a night out where I can go crazy to this.

Cosmic helped produce the next track ‘What You Doing?’. Synth pop done so well should have been higher up in the album. It’s funky, fresh and honestly just made me very happy listening to it.

We’re on track number ten with ‘I.P.U’. This track was designed to tug on the heartstrings. It’s a very smooth listen and the hook feels very emotional and heartfelt. It feels really well balanced. Also those vocal belts by Seoho are next level.

The album closes off with ‘Outro : Connect with US’. What a lovely way to finish their first full album. I’m in love with that soft guitar and I just wish it was a lot longer.
