The boys from ONEUS are back with their latest mini-album ‘5X’. “The album name ‘5x’ is a combination of the number ‘5’, which represents the five members, and ‘unknown number (x)’, which can be substituted with any value, symbolizing the work containing the unique color and infinite musical potential of each of the five members.”
We’re super stoked, so let’s dive right in this exciting comeback!
5X
We start off with the title track ‘X’. This is a cool rock pop track with a really funky bass and a lot of chutzpah and grit. The chorus is catchy and I enjoyed the progression of the full track.
‘LOVE ME or LOSER’ comes up next and opens with beautiful piano. It develops into this really dreamy synth pop track which I wasn’t expecting. The vocals are heartfelt, and it creates a very cool momentum. The EDM synth bridge was dope and totally fits the festival season.
‘RELOAD’ was written by Chaein from Purple Kiss. We’re sticking with the synth pop vibe and this has a really sick beat added to it. The breaths in the instrumental layering were cool.
Next up is ‘BAD’. I liked this line in the album introduction: “A small star floating in the blue sky. Before I knew it, I had stepped into the star’s orbit. Like a satellite circling above its orbit, the attraction was already set. ” This is a bit of a retro pop track. I vibed with the instrumental layering. The chorus is easy to sing along to. I can imagine this is going to be a perfect track to shout the lyrics to during a concert.
The closing track is the Korean version of ‘TIME MACHINE’ which was originally released in Japanese.
