[Review] Miyeon – MY

(G)I-DLE’s main vocal Miyeon just came out with her first solo mini-album ‘MY’. Let’s take a closer look!

MY

We start off with the track ‘ROSE’. This is such a lovely opening track. The balance of the instrumentation is super nice. Miyeon’s vocals are soft and create a super warm listening experience.

After that we get the title track ‘DRIVE’. This is a fun, summery synth track. Miyeon looks absolutely stunning in the music video. We get some insanely pretty vocals. I like this a lot, it reminds me of 2015 summer K-pop. I dig it.

‘Softly’ has such a mesmerizing opening. The instrumentals have such a weirdly interesting pace, I had to listen to it a couple of times. It’s awesome, I haven’t heard anything like this in a hot minute.

The track ‘TE AMO’ was co-written by Julia Michaels. It’s an alt pop track that has such a cool chorus. I really enjoy the rock influences and Miyeon’s raspier timbre in the vocals.

‘Charging’ featuring JUNNY comes next. This is such a nice R&B ballad. The harmonies are stunning! I love this a lot. It’s so soft!

The closing track is ‘RAIN’. It’s a soft, modern rock ballad. Miyeon wrote the lyrics herself. Go check out the translations here, it’s sad but beautifully written.

Miyeon did a great job with ‘MY’. I’m very curious to see where she’ll take her solo music. Go ahead and listen to the mini on Spotify here.
