[Review] LE SSERAFIM – FEARLESS

HYBE’s first girl group LE SSERAFIM are finally doing their official debut after weeks of anticipation and breath-taking concept films. The group name is an anagram for ‘I’m Fearless’, and consists of Sakura, Garam, Eunchae, Chaewon, Kazuha and Yunjin.

Sakura and Chaewon were part of the hit group I*ZONE, and Yunjin participated in 2019 in Produce 48.

With an already popular and very talented line-up this rookie group LE SSERAFIM has really created a lot of hype surrounding their debut EP ‘I’M FEARLESS’, and we are looking forward to the music in this release.

Let’s get right into the music.

FEARLESS

Opening this release we get ‘The World Is My Oyster‘, an intro that it is the perfect track for a fashion show. This single is very unexpected but I really liked the inclusion of the members’ voices in it, the reverb added was a lovely touch, definitely an alternative and very cool start.

FEARLESS‘ is next up and it is the title track. This song is very modern, funky and super trendy. Tt screams IT GIRL in every second and I liked the power vocals in it. Its catchiness is out of this world and I really dig the vibe of this single. An excellent title track.

The music video is girl power and the concept is just so DOPE. The black and white shots are beautiful, and I really liked how effortlessly good, youthful and trendy this MV is. The aesthetics fit the members so well, and they all shined in this music video. Watch it below.

With lyrics co-written by Chaewon and Yunjin, ‘Blue Flame‘ comes next with a disco-punk feel and killer vocalisation. The harmonies and ad-libs are beyond cool, and made this single such a cool and smooth listen.

Next up

Synth-pop takes over in ‘The Great Mermaid‘ with an interesting musical turn. The power and energy of this song is amazing. The anthem vibe in it is awesome and there is something about the arrangement that just had me absolutely hyped up.

Closing this debut EP we get ‘Sour Grapes‘, with a very charming mix of R&B and bossa nova. This song is based in one of ‘Aesop’s Fables’ and I can totally hear the dreamy and storytelling-like feel in this single. This song is an unconventional end song for a release, but it felt so spot on.

LE SSERAFIM definitely delivered and fulfilled all the expectations for their debut mini-album ‘FEARLESS’. The vocals, concept and sound of this release were magical, fun and super cool. Get ready to enjoy this EP from start to end, listen to it here.
