[Review] The Cursed

We’re back to talk about a new K-drama, this time about the thriller series ‘The Cursed’.

The TvN series has 12 episodes and was recently picked up on Netflix where you can watch it now. ‘The Cursed’ was directed by Kim Yong-Wan and written by Yeon Sang-Ho who wrote the script for ‘Hellbound’ and directed ‘Train To Busan’.

Plot

‘The Cursed’ follows Im Jin-Hee played by Um Ji-Won as she tries to uncover the mystery behind the fast-growing company Forest. The IT conglomerate has some mysterious disappearances and a fast turn-over.

She gets contacted by Baek So-Jin played by Jung Ji-So who has a vendetta against the CEO of Forest, Jin Jong-Hyun (Sung Dong-Il).

Baek So-Jin can curse people and needs a couple of things to curse Jin Jong-Hyun. Im Jin-Hee helps her out and they get into a whole bunch of shamanistic happenings.

Jin Jong-Hyun in the meantime is planning something big for the company’s IPO where the company goes public. He’s helped by the shaman Jin Kyung portrayed by the wonderful Jo Min-Soo.

Overall

Without giving away too much of the plot – which is hard – this is such a great show! The plot is solid and doesn’t meander too much. I think it was smart to stick to 12 episodes, as I feel like 16 would be too much.

The shamanistic aspect of the series is really well done. I’m very impressed by Jung Ji-So who’s also in ‘Doom at your service’, ‘Parasite’ and ‘Empress Ki’. She did a brilliant job at portraying the tortured Baek So-Jin.

Um Ji-Won also did a great job. Her character was pretty bad-ass. And in general, this series has so many strong women. I love it.

Go ahead and watch the trailer below.

Fun to note, due to the success of the series, they also created a movie spin-off. Read more about that here.
