[Review] KINGDOM – History of Kingdom: Part II. Chiwoo

The boy group KINGDOM is back with their first ever comeback EP ‘History of Kingdom: Part II. Chiwoo’. The boys have a rather interesting concept, where each member has a role of a historic character. The previous album was about Arthur and ‘Excalibur‘, this one is about the Chinese Chiyou, a tribal leader in Ancient China.

History of Kingdom: Part II. Chiwoo

We start off with the track ‘Intro: Echoes of Nirvana’. This is an absolutely stunning intro with traditional Chinese instruments. It really sets the scene so well to introduce Chiwoo’s character. It’s so beautiful!

After that we get the title track ‘KARMA’. This is Dance mixed with traditional Chinese sounds. It’s a really interesting sound and the music video makes it even better with all the looks and sets. This is a stunning appreciation of culture. It’s wonderful.

‘Eternity’ slows it down a little with some piano and soft vocals. This pop ballad is a great addition and I appreciate the extra layers of traditional instruments. It keeps the song dynamic and fresh.

Next up is ‘MAGICAL’. This is such a dope track! It has a lot funky bass thrown in and a lot of Dance vibes. It’s catchy and the rap verse is fire. That chorus is a total ear worm.

We’re going groovy with ‘Warning’. The bass in this is everything! This is a straight up bop and a fantastic B-side. I kind of hope we’re going to see a choreo for this track.

Track six is ‘MAKE US’. Members Dann and Mujin are listed as co-writers and co-composers. This is a song for the fandom, KINGMAKERS.

To close off we get the instrumental version of ‘KARMA’.

Overall, I’m very impressed by ‘History of Kingdom: Part II. Chiwoo’ by KINGDOM. It’s a very cohesive mini-album. You can find the mini-album on Spotify here.
