[Review] GRAY – grayground.

AOMG’s well-known producer and rapper GRAY released his first album ‘grayground.’. This release includes a very impressive line-up of features so let’s dive right in!

grayground.

We start off with ‘Show Window’ featuring pH-1. This is such a smooth 90s R&B track. They added some really lovely samples. That saxophone played by Jason Lee in the bridge had me vibing. I love the combo of their voices. ‘Show Window’ is a bit of a flex.

Next up is ‘Selfish’ featuring Woo. There’s a bit of groove to this one. The autotune backing vocal is actually super fun and well layered. The acapella section was really cool. I’m a sucker for Woo’s lazy rapping.

The first of two title tracks is ‘Make Love’ featuring Zion.T. This video is adorable and wholesome. The actress Go Min-Si in the video you’ll recognize from dramas like ‘Sweet Home’, ‘Love Alarm‘ and ‘Youth of May’.

‘Make Love’ is a really lovely title track that gives us some smooth R&B vocals by both Gray and Zion.T. It’s a god tier combo.

Next up is ‘Rise’ featuring DeVita. If you haven’t listened to ‘CREME‘ yet, go check it out. This one has a bit more of an EDM/dance vibe to it. It reminds me of summers in the 2010s when you’re going out for a drive with the radio on full blast.

The following track ‘I don’t love you’ featuring COOGIE was pre-released last week. We wrote about that one here. Take a look at the video below.

Loco and Lee Hi are featured on ‘Party For The Night’. This one was also pre-released and is a major party vibe.

We’re on track seven with ‘Close 2 U’ featuring punchnello. The bass in this track is so GOOD. The guitar is played by Lee Gapyeol. It’s super catchy and feels like something I’d hear on the radio which is fun.

Hoody is next in ‘Ready To Love’. The instrumentation is really cool, I love the addition of the string sample. Hoody as always is absolutely lovely. It’s not the first time that these two work together, last year they also released the single ‘Adios’.

‘Eternal Sunshine’ featuring Meenoi slows us down a little. The track was co-composed and co-arranged by Sam Kim. It’s a rather stunning R&B ballad. It’s an incredibly soft listen. The bridge with Jason Lee on the saxophone again, is superb.

‘Baby Don’t Cry’ was pre-released at the beginning of the month. The track featuring YUMDDA is a very comforting, believe-in-yourself song.

The closing track to the album is ‘U’ and is also the only solo track. It’s a very smooth listen and let’s us enjoy Gray’s vocals.

Overall ‘grayground.’ is a very enjoyable listen. The tracks are great and the entire work feels quite cohesive despite the amount of features. I think it’s the kind of release that will stay in your play rotation for a good while without getting sick of it.
