[R&B Gem] Zion.T

This week’s R&B Gem is one of the first Korean singers I ever listened to. With an amazing voice, a unique style, and lyrics that reaches hearts, today’s feature is Zion.T.

Kim Hae-sol debuted in 2011 with the single ‘Click Me’ featuring Dok2. This same year he also had a few collabs with renowned Korean rappers such as Simon D., Primary, Gray, among others.

The rise of a star

In 2013 Zion T. released his first studio album ‘Red Light’ under Amoeba Culture, the title track ‘Babay’ was well received by the public. This song is a bop and the music video is super artsy. This album also included previous singles he released. You can listen this album here.

This same year the EP ‘Mirrorball was released with the title track ‘Miss Kim’. This track has one of the most fun and groovy tracks I have listened to, with a touch of retro beats that are super memorable. Watch the music video below.

Yanghwa BRDG’ was released in 2014 and became one of the most successful songs by Zion T., this track is one of my favourites by him. It’s an R&B ballad that definitely connects emotionally with people. Watch the music video below.

Zero Gravity’, ‘Eat’ and ‘No Make-up’ were released in 2015, topped in the Korean charts, and became some of Zion.T’s most successful songs. Check them down below.

The Black Label

In 2016, Zion.T  joined YG Entertainment sub-label The Black Label after his contract with Amoeba Culture ended.

In 2017 he dropped his first EP ‘OO under his new label, the title track for this EP was ‘The Song’. This album charted well not just in Korea but also internationally.

‘ZZZ’ was released in 2018 with ‘Hello Tutorial’ as a title track featuring Red Velvet Seulgi. This EP was followed by the single ‘May’ released in 2019. Watch the music videos below.

Collabs

Zion.T has a lengthy list of fantastic collaborations with other artists that are worth mentioning. Here are just a few of them.

  • Crush and Zion.T  are a duo straight from heaven. This song peaked the Korean Charts, and I totally get it, the talent is unbelievable.
  • Simon D.’s early releases are always worth remembering and this collab is on the legendary level.
  • Still On My Way’ goes hard and the mix of heavy rapping with Zion.T vocals, is a combo I did not know I needed, but absolutely loved.
  • Dynamic Duo are hip-hop legends, them coming together in one single is success guaranteed. Nothing else has to be said.
  • Couldn’t ignore this fantastic b-side by G-Dragon featuring Zion.T, it’s smooth, unexpected and brilliant.
  • Jonghyun and Zion.T, two soulful vocals in just one stage. Harmonies straight from heaven.
  • Eureka’ is a bop. Incredible beats, groovy style, and an absolutely stunning video from start to end.
  • Last but not least, I had to add this song. The concept, lyrics and flow is just wholesome and adorable.
