Rapper In The Spotlight: Kid Milli

Today’s feature is a rapper I found just a while ago. His music is lit, and I LOVE his rapping style. This time we are talking about Kid Milli.

Choi Won-jae (a.k.a Kid Milli) debuted in 2017 with the extended play ‘Maiden Voyage’ under the music label Indigo Music. The vibe of this release is super chill, there are a lot of lo-fi tunes in it making it different and super refreshing to listen to, a very unusual debut EP. There are also a couple of features on it. Check it out below.

Before signing with Indigo Music, he had a couple of singles and released this music video he directed himself. Check it out.

Later on in 2017, he released ‘Maiden Voyage II’. This release, even though it has a very similar vibe to his debut, is also quite experimental. Kid Milli mixed elements of lo-fi and underground hip-hop in some tracks, especially in ‘Honmono’ ft. Black Nut. My favourite track from this release is ‘Dsel Interlude’. Listen to this release below.

‘AI, The Playlist’ is his first full album. Released in 2018, this album takes a completely different turn in comparison with his previous releases. Every single track is a musical journey, you can find the lo-fi instrumentation but also find a track that would fit perfectly for a cypher or a freestyle battle. Check out the mv for ‘WHY DO FUCKBOIS HANG OUT ON THE NET’.

Kid Milli released the EP ‘Imnotspecial’ featuring some incredible people including Sik-K, Coogie and Jvcki Wai before he became a contestant in Show Me The Money 777. He ended in 3rd place, but had some amazing and memorable performances.

Here is a video of his performance in SMTM777 featuring Gray.

Later on in 2018, he released ‘Maiden Voyage III’ and just like the previous two from this series, the EP is fire. Kid Milli has this rawness and underground hip-hop vibe that I love in his music. Here is the MV for ‘Duracell’ + ‘Xanny’.

His latest EP ‘L I F E’ was released in 2019. This extended play is one of my favourite ones as it is very diverse. There are songs like ‘SEX MONEY POWER’ which have a more urban hip-hop style mixed with acoustics but you can also find gems like ‘HITS’ with many layers and tunes mixed flawlessly. Here is the music video for ‘APP’ ft. Loopy.

In early 2020, the singles ‘BOY’ and ‘999<3’ were released and both songs show different sides of Kid Milli. The first one goes hard with heavy tunes and legendary rapping, whereas the second one has a way softer vibe. Here is the MV for BOY.

Kid Milli was a fantastic find for me, his music is diverse and I particularly like how he plays with instrument and lo-fi music in many of his releases.  Make sure to check out all the music he has put out and his collabs. You will not regret it.
