EP Review: (G)I-DLE – I Trust

(G)I-DLE just dropped their third extended play ‘I Trust’, after the preview of the music video for ‘Oh my god’ we were hyped up for this release. Every second of this sneak peek screamed aesthetics. Soyeon wrote every single song for this EP, and was involved in the production and composition. This is what we call an extremely talented leader.

‘I trust’

Oh my god’ starts off this EP and leaves a very strong impression, the vocals and rhythm are incredible. This song was released in English and Korean, and both are BOPS.

Something to notice in both versions is the beat drop just before the chorus. This part was something I did not expect, those microseconds of silence in anticipation of the drop had me expectant and it had been a while since a song made me feel that.

The song is heavily hip hop influenced with a mix of orchestra instruments added, and it is just the perfect title track for this group. Here is the music video.

Luv U’ follows it with a darker vibe and hip hop and synth tunes. This dance track is a trip for the listeners, there are many layers in it and I absolutely loved how they played with different rhythms and mixed it so flawlessly in this song.

Changing things up we have ‘Maybe’, and as soon as it started I thought that this song would be a more pop-ballad track, but nope, once more (G)I-DLE surprised us by changing the vibe of the full song to a more synth, almost electronic track. I personally felt that this style suits the concept of the group but in fairness they can pull off any concept.

LION’ is next and this song was released months ago for the final of the show ‘QUEENDOM’. We absolutely loved this stage and the music video is on the next level of greatness. If you haven’t watched it, check it out below.

‘I Trust’ is one incredible EP and I did not expect anything less from this very talented group. Make sure to check out the full EP below.
