Album Review: DPR – DPR Archives

Independent music label DPR just dropped ‘DPR ARCHIVES’, this release is a compilation of unreleased tracks by DPR artists and creative minds, including Live, IAN and CREAM.

We are big fans of their music, and we were hyped up when we saw the announcement of this release a couple of days ago. So, let’s dive right in!

DPR ARCHIVES

‘Thirst’ is first on this release, and this song’s vibe and style is the reason why I fell for DPR Live’s music. It is a very chill, groovy R&B track, that you can have on repeat for hours but never get tired of listening to it.

Playing with our emotions and feelings ‘just dream it’ starts, this song’s layering is incredible, the mix of beats is amazing and for almost two minutes this track will have you immersed in its beat and flow.

Billboard uwu’ is a powerful acoustic song, the piano playing throughout this entire song is emotional, splendid and also quite unexpected but definitely welcomed. DPR never ceases to surprise us with their level of artistry.

The orchestration in ‘our last dream’ comes straight from a fantasy movie, this song is captivating and magical.  ‘Coming to you seoul’ follows it with electronic beats and a fantastic vibe.

Next up

Eyes of ian’ is quite unexpected but absolutely brilliant, the electric guitar solo is something I didn’t know I needed but I’m here for it. Then with the next single ‘Eyes of live’ feels a lot like something Da-bin would create, it is soulful and calm. At the same time it’s tense, a mix of emotions and coolness that reminded me a lot of Live’s releases.

In a change of style we have ‘eyes of cream’ delivering a song that feels like a holiday on a tropical island, this track is playful and fun to listen to. Its transition to lo-fi beats was quite unexpected but it felt unique and somehow it worked perfectly.

With a very intense and interesting mix of beats, ‘eyes of rem’ plays with a mysterious vibe, followed by ‘eyes of dpr’, the latter one has a more R&B/electronic feel to it. The inclusion of the saxophone is fantastic and it worked in perfect synergy with the rest of the beats in this track.

Closing this album ‘zombie pop’ starts off with and R&B tempo, a groovy feeling and what makes it even better are Ian’s vocals. Is there anything these guys can’t do?

Listen to this release here on Spotify. And go and listen to DPR’s artists, believe me you won’t regret it, this label is full of soulful artists and quality music.
