Actor Spotlight: Shin Hye-sun

For this week’s Actor Spotlight we’re taking a look at the filmography of Shin Hye-sun.

Shin had her acting debut in the drama ‘School 2013’ alongside actors Jang Nara, Choi Daniel Lee Jong-suk, Kim Woo-bin and many more. This was the fifth installment of the ‘School’ series which depicted topics like bullying, student suicides and other relevant topics teenagers might face.

In 2014 she had small roles in ‘Angel Eyes’ and ‘High School King of Savvy’ and she also landed her first role on the big screen for the short film ‘One Summer Night’

Bigger roles started coming from 2015. She got roles in ‘Oh My Ghost’ and ‘She Was Pretty’.

Her breakout role was in the 2016 series ‘Five Enough’ that had a whopping 54 episodes. The same year Shin Hye-sun also had a role in ‘The Legend of the Blue Sea’.

The first time I personally saw her perform was in the series Strangerwhere she absolutely nailed her multifaceted character. She also came back for the second season.

For her role in ‘My Golden Life’ she earned 2 KBS Drama Awards, one for Excellent Actress and one for Best Couple Award.

2019 and 2020 were big years for Shin Hye-sun. She had the lead role in ‘Angel’s Last Mission: Love’ and the lead in ‘Mr. Queen’ which has become insanely popular. She also had the main role in the movie ‘Innocence’ where she plays a lawyer who’s trying to uncover the truth behind her mother’s arrest. The fact that these three roles couldn’t be any more different really speaks to her ability.

Her upcoming drama was announced and will be ‘See You in My 19th Life’. She does a fantastic job and I’m very curious to see where she goes next. I hope she picks up a couple more movies to really show her versatility.
