Weekly K-Indie Report

Our Weekly K-Indie Report is a brand new feature on M.E.A.L. where we’ll discuss some of our favorite indie releases of the week. Every day there are countless new songs, EPs and albums being dropped. They often go by without a lot of attention so we decided we had to remedy that and give them some spotlight. Unfortunately we do still have day jobs, so we can’t write about all of them on the daily, so we found the happy medium and decided to do it weekly.

Sunday

Lee Byoung Hyeon released her new single ‘Happy’ and it’s quirky, upbeat and totally reflects the title.

You can find the single on Spotify here.

Monday

On this lovely day we got the new single by Henne. I didn’t really know this artist before this track, but I’ve been utterly obsessed with the song and the music video for the entire week. Her vocals are super smooth and I love the direction of the MV.

You can find the single on Spotify here.

This song by Horim is so, so smooth. ‘NOTAnymo’’ is brilliant and his R&B vocals fit the song so well. I also love the fact that he looks like a mermaid in the music video.

You can find the single on Spotify here.

Jeon Yoodong released his first full album! There are 11 songs and I really liked the entire vibe of the album. The opening track is ‘Sparrows are adorable’, if that isn’t cute I don’t know what is.

You can find the album on Spotify here.

Tuesday

On Tuesday the relatively new group Low Hanging Fruits released the music video for their single ‘Ride A Board’. They actually released the single at the end of June, but I’m not sure how much traction it got before the music video release.

You can find the single on Spotify here.

The boys from Wave To Earth released their latest EP ‘summer flows 0.02’ and as usual they came out with quality content. I personally really liked ‘Ride’.

The band Cotton Stick released the full album ‘Cotton Field’. There are ten new songs with ‘Tunnel’ as their title track that came with a new music video. I particularly liked the funky, reggaeton inspired ‘Stranger’.

You can find the album on Spotify here.

We did find time to write about one indie release this week and it was the one by SURL and Jay Park. You can check out our article here

Wednesday

The indie singer Han See In came out with a new music video for the song ‘Hang Yeo’. Unfortunately it isn’t on Spotify yet. Though I did find his profile, I’ll link that below. If you like his style, go check out his song ‘Monique’ because it’s so soothing and beautiful. The MV for ‘Hang Yeo’ is really interesting and cool. I enjoyed the diversity and the fact they were all mouthing the lyrics.

Here’s his Artist Profile.

Kimparkjeje is a new discovery for me. He released his single ‘Taste’ on Wednesday and I am completely in love with his vocals and the drum they used. It feels very jazzy and is honestly so soothing to listen to.

You can find the single on Spotify here.

Friday

Newton is another discovery. I’d never really heard of her but her latest release ‘Disco Nights’ is a funky bop that I’ll replay when I want to dance.

I couldn’t find the Artist or the single on Spotify. If you know, feel free to leave it in the comments.

For a complete change in genre, there’s the release of Lovet. This single album is completely instrumental and just piano. The track ‘Call Me’ and ‘Dream’ are my favorites.

You can find the single album on Spotify here.

Saturday

ClaD is a wonderful singer. He has such good control over his vocals. His newest album ‘Act’ is another example of that. I really enjoyed the bossa nova influences and the overall funkiness of the song. The annoying thing though is that the album hasn’t been dropped on Spotify or YouTube Music.

You can find his Artist Profile here.

That is it for this Weekly K-Indie Report. Feel free to leave your favorites in the comments, also if I missed anything let me know. Again, I’m just trying to spread the love for our K-indie artists.

We’ll be back next week, so stay tuned!
