[Review] Spice Up Our Love

In this edition of our K-Drama review, we’re spotlighting a short and irresistibly sweet drama that delivers the perfect dose of serotonin, romance, and humour — let’s talk about ‘Spice Up Our Love’.

Created by Kim Hye-young, written by Cho Min-jun, and directed by Jung Hoo, this two-episode fantasy rom-com tells the story of a web novelist who suddenly finds herself living inside her own story — with some unexpected twists.

A Story Within a Story

Seo Yeon-seo (Han Ji-hyun) is a successful romance web novelist who, despite her growing readership, still receives online hate. Frustrated by one particularly harsh comment, she decides to confront the commenter in real life. That’s when she crosses paths with Kang Ha-joon (Lee Sang-yi) — the critic in question — right before he’s involved in a terrible accident. But just before the crash, Yeon-seo faints… and wakes up inside her webtoon, as the main female lead.

Now living the fictional world she created, Yeon-seo quickly discovers that things aren’t unfolding as she originally wrote them. Ha-joon, her harshest critic, has somehow become the CEO male lead of her story. Trapped in her own plot, she finds herself navigating unexpected romantic scenarios, trying to convince Ha-joon that she is actually the writer of this world — all while attempting to rewrite the story’s events before they spiral out of control.

Short, Sharp, and So Much Fun

With just two episodes, ‘Spice Up Our Love’ is a light, fast-paced watch packed with laugh-out-loud moments, romantic tension, and surprisingly thoughtful reflections on storytelling, fiction, and fate. Han Ji-hyun and Lee Sang-yi deliver effortless chemistry, making the absurd premise charmingly believable. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick binge or a clever twist on the enemies-to-lovers trope, this drama is a perfect pick-me-up.
