[Review] Search: WWW

Today’s drama is all about female power, business driven professionals that aren’t afraid to speak up, badass characters that should be more frequent in the K-Drama world. Today we are talking about ‘Search: WWW’.

Written by Kwon Do-eun and directed by Jung Ji-hyun and Kwon Young-il, ‘Search: WWW’ aired on tvN in 2019.

From the get-go this drama drew my attention for one of its cast members Lee Da-hee, and ever since I saw her in ‘The Beauty Inside’, I have been obsessed with her work. She is gorgeous and extremely talented.

Unconventional plot

Starring Im Soo-jung as Bae Ta-mi, Lee Da-hee as Cha Hyeon, Jeon Hye-jin as Song Ga-kyeong, this production follows the story of three successful women in their late 30s and the different professional and personal issues they go through.

Every single one of these characters is exceptionally unique. They aren’t perfect but they are good at what they do, more so, they are clear on what they want and I found this part of the story quite interesting.

The story starts with Ta-mi working in Unicon, a search engine with a great reputation, along with Ga-kyeong. However, she leaves her position in the company and is scouted by Unicon’s competitor Barro, where Cha Hyeon works.

The plot itself I feel is more focused on the development of these three characters as professionals and the different challenges they face, however, their personal relationships are also part of their storyline and they take an interesting turn.

Business or Love

The love life of these three women is not like any other relationship we see in dramas. From one side Ta-mi is professional driven and that’s what she lives for, she clearly knows what she wants in her life and stays in her life path even when she meets her love interest Park Morgan (Jang Ki-yong).

Ga-kyeong has a convenience marriage with Seol Ji-hwan (Ji Seung-hyun), and finally Cha Hyeon has the cutest (and also the healthiest) relationship of all of them when she meets Oh Jin-woo (Lee Jae-wook).

Personally from all of these relationships the one I enjoyed watching the most was Cha Hyeon with Jin-woo. They were adorable together and I have to say I was shook seeing Lee Jae-Wook in this role after watching him in ‘Memories of Alhambra’ and ‘Extraordinary You’. This guy is an amazing actor who can take on any role he wants and he owns it.

The Dream Team

Barro’s team is one of the coolest work teams I have seen in dramas. They are not the typical workmates we see in dramas and it was super refreshing. The CEO of the company (portrayed by Kwon Hae-hyo) had more of a guide role which I found incredible and interesting, it is not the typical CEO or Chairman we see in dramas, meaning ice in their veins and their eyes.

Overall, ‘Search: WWW’ is a very enjoyable drama that I felt was a bit underrated despite the incredible cast, acting and the well written and thoughtful storyline. You can check the trailer below.
