[Review] OK! Madam

‘OK! Madam’ is our topic for this week’s review feature. This 2020 action-comedy hit all the right spots for me. The script was written by Shin Hyun-Sung and directed by Lee Chul-Ha. It might just be one in my Top 3 films of this year as well.

Plot

The story of the Korean film ‘OK! Madam’ is about twisted bread stick seller Mi-Young portrayed by the iconic Uhm Jung-Hwa and her family as they win tickets to Hawaii.

Mi-Young is in a loving relationship with her husband Seok-Hwan played by Park Sung-Woong. He’s honestly a sweetheart who works as a tech repairman. They win the free trip to Hawaii from a juice bottle and they’d really like to take their daughter on a trip.

Of course, a lot more happens than that and it doesn’t exactly go smoothly. The couple has been hiding quite a few things from each other. Though you don’t have to worry, it doesn’t exactly get very dark. Because, surprise! The both of them used to have very important positions for national security agencies.

The airplane gets taken over by gangsters and Mi-Young and Seok-Hwan work together with the air stewards to be able to take back the plane.

Overall

Honestly, this film is hilarious. For me, ‘OK! Madam’ falls just below my favorite Korean comedy of all time ‘Extreme Job’. It has the same energy and comedic timing. It was so incredibly funny to watch. The stunts were fabulous as well. The entire team really came together on this one.

It’s about 1 hour and 40 minutes, so it runs on the shorter side because that includes the credits. I do think that was appropriate for this film. I don’t think the plot had enough bones for a longer film.

If you don’t know what to watch and you don’t want to go super heavy, then I definitely recommend this one.

There were some really big names in ‘OK! Madam’ for the smaller roles. Lee Sang-Yoon played one of the gangsters. Other notable names are Bae Jeong-Nam, Lee Sun-Bin, Kim Hye-Eun from ‘Itaewon Class’, Jung Man-Shik from ‘Vagabond’ and many more. You can check the full list here
