[Review] MONSTA X – One Of A Kind

MONSTA X is back to bless us with new music in their new mini-album ‘One Of A Kind’. What’s special about this album is the amount of member produced content there is. The members Joohoney, I.M and Hyungwon all have multiple credits listed. We’re looking at straight-up talent.

One Of A Kind

We start off with the title track ‘GAMBLER’. This song is a club BANGER. In the album description it’s written that the song is about believing in your own strength so much that you can bet everything on it. I’m loving the build-ups, the vocals and the hard hitting instrumentals. The song goes hard and they know it. Also Joohoney, I hear that high note, *chef’s kiss*.

The music video feels expensive. For some reason it reminds me of the luxurious feel of velvet. I dig it.

Next up is ‘Heaven’ which starts off with a more acoustic feel. I really enjoyed the Bossa Nova rhythm with that jazzy piano in the background. As soon as I heard the saxophone I was already adding it to my playlist. This song is so smooth and as they wrote in the album description it’s a great track to use as soundtrack for a summer drive. I’m living for the bridge. Wow, this is 10/10.

‘Addicted’ follows that with trap beats and lyrics about a toxic love. The ad libs are insane in this. The whole song is such a vibe. Minhyuk gives us some of his fantastic vocals and it really complements the track so well. It makes for a very smooth listen.

Next up

We’re on track four with ‘Secrets’. Shownu’s opening gave me chills. ‘Secrets’ is completely in English and gives me smooth sexy R&B vibes. Yes, that is including that sexy saxophone they added.

The lyrics for ‘BEBE’ are completely written by Hyungwon. This is such an adorable love song. I’m here for wholesome MONSTA X.

‘Rotate’ follows that with a more ‘saucy’ vibe. The vocals guys!! I’m in love with the chorus, I don’t know what kind of effect they used but the layering is fabulous! I.M, Sir, you’re making fans blush.

We close off the mini with the Korean version of ‘Livin’ It Up’. This was originally on their Japanese album ‘PHENOMENON’ in 2019. It’s a party anthem.

‘One Of A Kind’ by MONSTA X is such a great album with straight up bangers. The songs are awesome and have interesting instrumentals. I love this album a lot and I’ll be replaying this for a while. You can find it on Spotify here.
