Miyeon is back with her second mini-album ‘MY, lover’. We’re super curious so let’s take a closer look at this comeback. If you’d like to go back to her first mini-album, you can find our review here.
MY, lover
We open up the mini with the pre-released single ‘Reno’ featuring Colde which we wrote about here.
Next up is her title track ‘Say My Name’. This is a beautiful pop ballad with a lot of lingering feelings and beautiful vocals. I enjoyed the piano mixed with the beats and the melody is just lovely.
‘F.F.L.Y.’ is up next. This is a beautiful track with an amazing piano in the instrumentals. The track compares love with the changing of the seasons. I thought the little pause during the bridge was really cool.
After that comes ‘Space Invader’. We’re getting an acoustic pop ballad where “Miyeon’s uniquely lyrical voice in the chorus portrays the inner strength to sustain oneself even in loneliness, and the song evokes both lyricism and loneliness, as if depicting an isolated swimmer in space.”
‘You and No One Else’ was co-written by Miyeon herself which we love to see. I really liked the electric guitars during the post-chorus. It’s kind of groovy. Honestly this full track is a vibe. I dig it.
‘Petal Shower’ has a realy strong bass in the instrumentals. It “compares the moment of finally blooming again after overcoming the pain of separation to a scene of fluttering flower petals.”
The closing track of this mini is ‘Show’. It’s a pop rock moment where the lyrics talk about finally accepting yourself after a rough patch. The vocals are super impressive.
