[Review] LOONA – [&]

The girls from LOONA are finally back with their new EP ‘[&]’. Let’s dive right in because I’ve been heavily anticipating this release.

[&]

We start off with the instrumental intro ‘&’. We start off strong with such an interesting mix with heavy EDM and an Indian flute. It is such an awesome opening.

The title track ‘PTT (Paint The Town)’ is up next. We continue on with the Bollywood instrumentals and the badass EDM. This dance track has some insane energy and flips in the layering. It’s fun and explosive. The rap verses gave me life. The girls are breaking the LOONA-verse to unite everyone.

‘WOW’ is up next and immediately had me sit up straight. The swing vibes are immaculate and I’m in love. This is airy, fun and gets you grooving in no time. The snaps are hella cute. The tinkling piano and the vocals in the bridge deserve an award on its own because wow (see what I did there, I’m not sorry).

We follow that with ‘Be Honest’ and a crackling car radio intro. We’re going retro with such a catchy chorus. This is a major summer bop and I need a live version as soon as possible. This is another track that injects serotonin straight to my veins. The talk-singing just before the bridge was adorable. I appreciate the 2nd gen vibes so much.

Next up

‘Dance on my own’ is giving us harmonies! This is soft pop at its finest. This English track is catchy as hell and will undoubtedly be added to some major pop playlists.

Next up is ‘A Different Night’. We’re getting a ballad with outstanding vocals and a very emotional feel. The harmonies in the chorus are stunning. The sweeping violins really help evoke your emotions and I really enjoyed that electric guitar in the back.

We close off with ‘U R’ with some smooth R&B. The combination of tinkling piano and great vocals is something you can never get bored of. When you add in that electric guitar and that sweet snare drum, you get a great mix.

Overall, I’m very happy with ‘[&]’ by LOONA. This mini-album has something for everyone’s taste. We were fed with great vocals and well-balanced songs. Go ahead and listen to the EP on Spotify here.
