[Review] Lee Seung Gi – The Project

Lee Seung Gi who you might know from series like Vagabondand ‘A Korean Odyssey’ is also an incredibly talented singer. The man really has it all. Today Lee Seung Gi released his album ‘The Project’ where he remastered a handful of his old releases to put them in a new jacket. Let’s take a look!

The Project

We start off with the track ‘The Ordinary Man’. This is an original for this album. He pre-released this a couple of weeks ago and it is a stunning ballad which fits his soft vocals so much. This is super soothing.

Next up is the track ‘LOVE’ which he originally released in 2015. I linked the original version here if you want to be able to compare them easily. It’s a beautiful ballad with the softest piano in the background. This is such a smooth listen.

After that we get the remastered version of the 2009 single ‘Like a flower’, if you want to see him perform this in 2014, please click here. The babyface is to die for. The electric guitar is AMAZING. This kinda feels like an anime opening from the early 2000s and I am here for it.

‘Like a flower’ is followed by ‘Your Eyes, Hands and Lips’ which was written and produced by The Epitone Project. We get beautiful strings and fantastic vocals. If you want to read the translated lyrics you can click here.

Next up

Next up is the title track ‘I Will’ which was written and composed by Brave Brothers. The instrumentation is stunning and feels a bit more pop rock inspired, especially when the drums come in. If you happen to recognize the actress from the music video. It’s Park Gyu-Young who you probably remember from ‘It’s okay to not be okay’.

‘The Dreamers Dream’ was written and composed by Kim Jong-Wan from the band NELL. I feel like this track hurts my feelings so I’m putting it in my Sad Days playlist.

‘A Song To Make You Smile’ follows that and it is another remake. We get more familiar voices in this one, e.g. J-Hope and RM from BTS. I am in love with harmonica. You can listen to the original here.

Next up is ‘Love Spinning Round’. You can listen to the original version from 2009 here. This feels very old school even if it is a remake. I dig it.

The last track on the album is ‘Words that say I love you’ which was released on his fifth album in 2012. Lee Seung Gi wrote the lyrics himself and also composed the track. If you want the original version you can click here. It’s absolutely lovely.
