[Review] IVE – EMPATHY

The girls from IVE are back with their latest mini-album ‘EMPATHY’. We’ve literally been counting down the days, so let’s dive right in!

EMPATHY

We open up with the first title track ‘REBEL HEART‘ which was a pre-release we covered in this feature.

Next up is ‘FLU’. This is a very cute pop dance track with a solid bounce to it. I enjoyed the vocals a lot and the progression of the track. The outro was really dope.

‘You Wanna Cry’ is a reinterpretation of the classic Whitney Houston song ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’. It’s modernized by the rock elements added to it like the grungy guitars and the drums.

After that comes ‘Thank U’ which is literally the cutest track. This is a mid-tempo track with solid beats and a beautiful message. The vocals are amazing and I love how they’re layered. This is also the first time that member Leez participated in writing the lyrics.

Next up is the title track ‘ATTITUDE‘. I’m going to obsess over this track for a while. This is such a cool listen. The girls are reclaiming their power and they’re all THAT girl. Jang Won-young is listed on the credits for the lyrics and I love that they added her iconic (and viral) twirl in the choreography.

I love the power, the absolutely insane high notes and the swagger rap verses. This is a top track.

The mini closes off with ‘TKO’. This leans more towards the hip-hop genre with the 808 beat and impressive rap verses. I love how hard this goes and I’m as always obsessed with the addition of cow bells in the instrumentals. The pre-chorus slaps.
