[Review] Into The Ring

2020 was the year where everything stopped, but the K-Drama world kept spinning and kept us entertained through the full lot. In today’s review we are sharing our thoughts about a hidden gem that was seriously overlooked and deserved a lot more attention, let’s talk about ‘Into The Ring’.

“I Wish Life Could Come on Installments”

Written by Moon Hyun Kyung, and Directed by Hwang Seung Gi and Choi Yeon Soo, ‘Into The Ring’ is all about underdogs, courage and those wanting to make this world a better place.

Goo Se Ra (Lim Jin Ah/NaNa) is known for being the ‘Queen of Civil Complaints’. She’s had many jobs throughout her life, but her efforts haven’t been able to provide what she wants the most, a stable and high income.

She has struggled financially for years and decides to drastically change her career and venture into politics, wanting to get elected as a council representative and be able to earn 50 million won a year while working just a few days during the year.

With the help of her best friends Kwon Woo Young (Kim Mi Soo) and Jang Han Bi (Shin Do Hyun), Se Ra starts off on an adventure in local politics that will turn out to be a big challenge where she will be tested at many personal levels.

Seo Gong Myung (Park Sung Hoon) is a civil servant known for his cold attitude and unapproachable personality. He is very efficient in his work; however, the ‘Queen of Civil Complaints’ becomes an even bigger challenge when she decides to become a politician.

Se Ra and Gong Myung met each other as kids, but in their childhood they lost contact. Shared  beliefs make these two become a team and try to make their district a better place for its citizens.

Politics, Friendships and Society

The District People’s Council will turn out to be the epicenter of many issues where personal interest takes priority over the people’s one, and Se Ra and Gong Myung will have to face many challenges, confronting those whose interests have negatively affected the community.

Throughout the drama this pair will basically become the nemesis of the corrupted system, however, the end might not be what they expected to be.

While this pair struggles to survive in the tough political world, Se Ra’s best friends Woo Young and Han Bi, will have to face not just their past but also try to be strong and overlook the misconceptions people have about them.

Comical Relief

Despite talking about some serious social issues, ‘Into The Ring’ narrates stories with quirkiness and wholesomeness, making its characters human and (mostly) likeable. The character development is fantastic and the acting is splendid.

This drama develops in the beauty of human nature, making mistakes and trying to fix them, its main characters try to fight for what ‘s right. We definitely need more people like that in the real world.

If you are looking for a hidden gem, with a lot of comical moments, a special charm and also a very easy watch, make sure to check out ‘Into The Ring’. You can watch the trailer below.
